Our Innovation story began during the COVID-19 pandemic. This was a time in modern human history where everyone around the world had to practice social distancing, wear a mask and keep our hands clean, to protect us from the winds of death that was blowing around the world 🌎.

Schools closed down and technology took center stage as the most efficient way to connect with one another. From 2020 my students were learning computer coding skills online and were empowered with digital skills.

In December 2021 we were invited to Phendvuka Calvary Church to train the youth on digital skills empowerment and that was their moment to showcase the true impact of Competency Based Education, an educational approach where students advance by demonstrating mastery of specific skills and knowledge.

My young Techno Friends, still in primary school at that time, assisted in facilitating a week long digital skills workshop because they had the skills. Yes they were nervous but because they were in church in the presence of God, they were empowered with strength to share our knowledge and skills with courage and confidence.

This ground breaking moment at Phendvuka Calvary Church stands as a testament, that learning can happen anywhere, skills sharing is not only limited to adults and teachers. The CBE is a great opportunity to allow the next generation of innovators to acquire skills that are relevant for the 21st century. 🌍 Gratitude to the Ministry of Education and Training Eswatini 🙏

Techno Friends International, celebrates the Ministry’s step to introduce Competency-Based Education (CBE) and the Four-Year Programme in secondary schools by 2026.

For the past five years, we’ve been teaching children through CBE — helping them create video games, digital stories, and eBooks using AI. We’ve seen how this approach builds creativity, confidence, and problem-solving skills that prepare them for the 21st century.

This milestone will transform how children think, how families live, and how our nation grows. We’re proud to see Eswatini moving towards a more inclusive, equitable, and globally competitive education system.

Sometime soon in an interview, these young leaders will be asked the question, Tell us about yourself. From this experience, they will be able to say, in 2025 when I was (age) years old, I was nominated as the outstanding young boy/ girl in Science, Technology, engineering, Arts and Mathematics category because of my hardwork in computer coding skills and this is the proof of that will support that statement. Led by Bongekile Shiba, career guidance teacher and the nominee for the Digital Innovator of the Year, they are growing 💪 and older everyday. We are building resumes and stories for cool essays in college applications. Thank you Marydee Isibuko Serenity Foundation for shining the light on their work. They are all the best in what they do but only one will take the award home.
