New Campus Royalty Crowned at UNESWA
A new chapter in student leadership, excellence, and campus representation unfolded at the Emporium Hall, Kwaluseni Campus, as students gathered for the highly anticipated Mr & Miss UNESWA 2026 competition held on Friday evening.
After a night of elegance, confidence, and spirited competition, Sihlelelwe Dlamini and Blessing Simelane emerged victorious, claiming the coveted titles of Miss UNESWA 2026 and Mr UNESWA 2026, respectively.
The annual pageant attracted a competitive field of contestants from across the university, each seeking to demonstrate not only poise and stage presence, but also the character, intellect, and leadership qualities expected of campus ambassadors. Throughout the evening, contestants showcased their talents and personalities before a packed audience and a panel of judges tasked with selecting the university's next representatives.
As the competition progressed, anticipation grew among supporters and spectators who had gathered to witness the crowning of the new campus royalty. When the final results were announced, the hall erupted into applause as Dlamini and Simelane were crowned the university's new title holders.
Beyond the prestige associated with the crowns, the winners also received sponsored driving lessons, adding a practical and valuable reward to their achievement.
The Mr & Miss UNESWA pageant remains one of the university's flagship student events, providing a platform for students to build confidence, develop public engagement skills, and promote positive representation of the institution. Over the years, the competition has evolved beyond a traditional beauty pageant, placing increasing emphasis on leadership, communication, and personal development.
For the newly crowned title holders, the victory marks the beginning of a year in which they will serve as ambassadors for the university, representing the institution at various events and engagements while inspiring fellow students through

Students at the University of Eswatini can look forward to an evening of cultural expression and celebration later this month, as the UNESWA Arts and Culture Society prepares to host its upcoming Africa Day Celebration, also referred to as Culture Day.

The event is scheduled to take place on 30 May 2026 at the UNISWA Kwaluseni Campus, and is expected to bring together students from diverse cultural backgrounds in a showcase of African identity, heritage, and creativity.

According to event organisers, attendees can expect a variety of activities throughout the celebration, including cultural performances, poetry, stage drama, music, and motivational speeches. Refreshments will also be available during the event.

The celebration comes at a time when universities across the continent continue to place growing emphasis on preserving African cultural identity within modern academic spaces. Student-led initiatives such as Culture Day play an important role in strengthening unity, encouraging cultural appreciation, and creating platforms for artistic talent on campus.

Beyond entertainment, the event is also expected to serve as a social and cultural gathering point for students seeking to reconnect with tradition, language, music, and African storytelling in a university environment increasingly shaped by global influences.

With preparations underway, organisers have encouraged students to participate fully and support what promises to be one of the more vibrant student cultural events on the UNESWA calendar.

UNESWA Reopens IDE Applications, Extends Deadline to 31 May 2026.

The University of Eswatini has officially reopened applications for its Institute of Distance Education (IDE), giving prospective students a renewed opportunity to enrol for the upcoming academic intake.

The decision follows a recent Senate resolution, which extended the application deadline to 31 May 2026. The move is expected to benefit applicants who may have missed earlier deadlines or required additional time to prepare their submissions.

In a statement shared on the university’s official platforms, the institution encouraged aspiring students to take advantage of the extension. “If you were waiting for another chance to join us, this is it,” the notice read, reinforcing the university’s commitment to widening access to higher education.

The IDE remains a strategic arm of the university, designed to accommodate students who require flexible learning options. Through distance education, learners are able to balance academic pursuits with professional and personal responsibilities—an increasingly relevant model in today’s evolving education landscape.

Prospective applicants can submit their applications online via the university’s admissions portal. With the new deadline in place, candidates are advised to act promptly to secure their placement.

As competition for limited spaces is expected to intensify closer to the closing date, the extension offers not just more time—but a second chance that should not be taken lightly.
