Meta Pages are Being Targeted by Scammers

We have noticed increased scammer activity targeting Meta Pages(Facebook & Instagram). It is therefore crucial to stay extra vigilant and protect our pages from being hacked while managing our online presence.

The biggest risk is being hacked and completely losing control of your pages permanently.

NOTE: Official Meta communication is always shared through an email, not on Inbox or comments.

Precautions:
▶️ Never click on any link unless you are 100% sure that it is safe and it is from a trusted source.
▶️ Avoid watching videos and viewing posts, or sites that look fishy or unprofessional while logged into our Meta Accounts.
▶️ Do not click on links that will take you away from Facebook or Instagram to sites that are suspicious and unprofessional.
▶️ Avoid switching between platforms while managing our pages.
▶️ If you are a Page Admin, avoid switching between pages while actively using social media.
▶️ Maintain a professional online presence including conduct and behaviour at all times.
▶️ Keep our online interactions clean and appropriate, do not be actively engaging with fishy content.
▶️ Ensure that you are using a strong, and unique password for all your social media accounts.
▶️ Enable two-factor authentication in the security for your personal accounts, as this adds an extra layer of security to your accounts and to the pages you manage.
▶️ Always verify the authenticity of pages and accounts before you act or respond to them or their requests.
▶️ Immediately report and block any suspicious users or accounts.
▶️ Always verify information from Meta through official channels.
▶️ Regularly review your page's settings and security.
▶️ Be vigilant on unsolicited messages or friend requests on your personal profile if you are a Page Admin because that might expose our pages to risks.
▶️ Do not respond or comment to spam messages, instead DELETE and BLOCK those users.
▶️ Keep your software and apps updated with the latest security patches.
▶️ Regularly review your personal account settings and privacy controls.
▶️ Raise an alarm immediately you are prompted to change your password, or you are told your session has expired.
▶️ Such prompts might be a sign that someone else is trying to access your account or hack you. At that moment, change your password, review your activity Log, check active users/admins, if you see people you don't know, remove them.
▶️ Lastly, review all logged-in devices and remove all unknown logged devices. Make sure that your app is updated.

Be warned..!‼ hackers are back in force Targeting the southern African region.

The hackers this time are targeting personal profiles, not business pages, most of these personal profiles are those which have been updated to professional mode, especially those with the fastest increasing number of followers, however, even those on classic mode are still at risk.

Over the past 5 days, we have received numerous cases where profiles have been hacked.

Once the account is hacked, the hackers post their stuff mostly which is trading.

How to protect your account:
▶ Set up a two-factor authentication
▶ Remove/ unfriend and block ghost friends mostly those who promote trading
▶ Dont accept or click on Links you are kit sure of, even when they are sent by a credible person
▶ Avoid unsecured sites
▶ Logging in and out of different accounts from one phone is not advisable - it makes you vulnerable and your account becomes a target.
▶ If you have multiple accounts ensure you use one phone for your main account and a different phone for the other less important accounts.
▶ Check Logged In devices and remove all those u do not know.
▶ Lastly, change your password, and Log Out of all other devices

WARNING ⚠️

Be warned, Hackers are back in force targeting the African continet targeting celebrities and prominent people even across the world.

Users from Eswatini is amongst the targeted countries.

Since last week about 10 incidents of hacking or suspected hacking has been reported with us.

Seven of which have been reported in the lat 24 hours with six of those incidents being Instagram Accounts.

This shows that the attacks have been massive in the last two days targeting Instagram accounts for local celebrities and prominent people.

Such massive hacking attaches was last experienced in the country on the first and second week of April this year where a lot of Facebookaccounts and business pages were hacked.

This time around, Instagram Accounts for prominent people are being massively targeted as well as Facebook accounts.

The hackers have IP addresses from Turkey and are using Instagram’s verification process to steal sensitive information from unsuspecting users.

Victims typically receive phishing emails from an “ig-badges” email account that generally has the subject line “in blue badge info.”
The email tells the victim that their Instagram profile has been reviewed and “deemed eligible” for verification and gives them a link to click.

Some are eported to have received inbox mesaages promisesing them a lucrative offers and asking them to click a link.

Some also do not get messages, but once their close friend on the social network clicks the link, they are most vulnerable to the attack

Some reported that they receive notifications alerting them of illegitimate suspicios activities in their accounts, and gives them a link to verify or request a review

Some said they receive False copyright infrigment messages and they were given a link to click to request review.

In nost cases, The link takes them to a website asks for a person’s name, phone number, email, and Instagram password, telling victims they will be contacted after 48 hours once everything is entered.

We want to warn uses to check all links before they click them and verify if they are from a trusted source.

Some of the common things hackers do once your account is breached include:

▶ They demand a ransom
▶ Scam your friends, family members, and customers. Investment, Bitcoin, and Romance scams are some of the most common.
▶ Sell your account on the dark web
▶ Use your account to run a fraudulent operation
▶ Make various types of illegal requests, like requesting lewd photos from your friends

Advice

▶ If you have a Facebook/ Instagram Business Page, please don't click on any link that you get from notifications

▶ About 10 cases since yesterday has been reported, one page has already been hacked and all admins have lost Admin Rights in their pages.

▶ Don't accept any lucrative offer claiming to be from Facebook advertising

▶ Be warned of WhatsApp messages from Numbers +1(365)...

The Sunday Times today reported that a full bench of the High Court has delivered a judgment that stipulates the lengths to which employees can comment on social media regarding socio-political matters even if a Social Media Policy exists at their place of employment.

The judgment touches on the extent to which employees can use social media and in terms of the protection of the right to freedom of expression.

This now will shape the way social media policies are crafted for companies and the protection of employees and the company's image.
