Deputy Primr Minister Hon. Thulisile Dladla had yesterday officially handed over four newly constructed houses to vulnerable families in the Maseyisini and Methula Tinkhundla, a project implemented through the National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA). The first house was handed over to Mkhulu Jabulani Mdluli (61) and his wife, who had been living in a dilapidated stick-and-mud structure at Ntandweni, Maseyisini. Overcome with emotion, Mdluli shed tears of joy as he received the keys to his new home, describing it as a life-changing relief. The second house was presented to Wandile Gumbi (29), a visually impaired young man who had previously lived in pipes and later in a rundown rental after being evicted by his family at Vusweni, Maseyisini. Gumbi praised the DPM for her commitment to persons with disabilities. Dladla reaffirmed that one in every five houses built for vulnerable families will be allocated to persons with disabilities, and pledged fencing and indigenous chickens to support his livelihood. A third house was handed over to a child-headed household of 10 siblings and their six children, who had been sharing a single-room stick-and-mud dwelling in poor condition at Methula. Sikhulile Dlamini (21) expressed gratitude for the safe and decent structure. The DPM promised life-skills training for the family to help them sustain themselves and improve their future prospects. The final house was given to Simangele Simelane (43), a mother of six minor children at Kalomfa, Methula. Previously, the family lived in a leaking one-room house and often sought refuge with neighbors during heavy rains. Simelane described the new home as a source of dignity and security for her children. Deputy Prime Minister Dladla highlighted that these initiatives are not only about providing shelter but also about restoring dignity and empowering families to build sustainable futures. She urged communities to embrace peace and compassion during the festive season, reinforcing governmentβs commitment to protecting vulnerable citizens.
