Meet BirthMaak Alacrity: The Rising Voice of Hip Hop from Ngculwini
At just 22 years old, Melusi Maziya, better known by his stage name BirthMaak Alacrity, is carving a name for himself in the world of hip hop. Hailing from the heart of Ngculwini, Melusi’s journey into music is one of passion, purpose, and relentless drive. A storyteller at heart and a voice for the voiceless, BirthMaak is quickly becoming a force to be reckoned with in the local and international music scenes.
Early Beginnings
Melusi's musical journey began in 2018 when he started out as a DJ at the age of 16. But it wasn’t long before his path shifted toward hip hop. In 2019, inspired by his brother and artists like Emtee, Nasty C, and A-Reece, he transitioned into becoming a full-fledged artist. What began as a love for trap music slowly evolved into a deeper connection with rap, particularly in 2023, when fellow artist and friend CoachSavo B encouraged him to explore lyrical storytelling.
Artistic Style and Influences
BirthMaak Alacrity is known for blending trap and rap, delivering verses that speak to real-life struggles, introspection, and emotional resilience. His lyrical influences include not only African heavyweights like Touchline and Priddy Ugly, but also global icons such as J. Cole, whose depth and penmanship pushed BirthMaak to elevate his own craft.
“I make music people can relate to,” he shares. “It’s like a life conversation—about pain, dreams, challenges, and hope.”
Collaborations and the Rise of the Immortal Family
His debut track, She Drive Me Crazy, marked the beginning of his artistic journey. Created alongside Cool Drop, Nhlonipho, and featuring Kid Real, the group dubbed themselves The Baad Sparklers, delivering a youthful, love-inspired anthem that showcased BirthMaak’s early potential.
In 2023, he became part of a powerful collective known as the Immortal Family—a group of six talented young artists: CoachSavo B, Yiwa, EL\$ King, William Swillz, Rolly Rivern, and BirthMaak himself. Together, they represent a new wave of creatives with a shared vision to impact the world through music.
‘Seeking For Blessings’ – A Soulful Debut EP
A few months ago, BirthMaak released his debut EP titled Seeking For Blessings, featuring collaborations with Nanzy, Mndeni, Yiwa, and Shatt Res. The project is a heartfelt expression of vulnerability, growth, and the artist’s plea for support from both his family and his growing fanbase.
“This EP is my soul speaking,” he explains. “It’s about asking for blessings, not just from above, but from those who believe in me. I can’t walk this journey alone.”
Vision for the Future
BirthMaak Alacrity’s mission is crystal clear—to create music that inspires, heals, and connects. He hopes to reach out to those battling depression, social anxiety, and the everyday pressures of life. With each verse, he strives to speak to that “particular person” who feels unseen or unheard.
Looking forward, he dreams of collaborating with hip hop legends such as Lyrikal Busta, A-Reece, Nasty C, and Touchline, while ultimately aiming to take his music international.
