Eriksen Breaks Silence After Collapse

MBABANE - Christian Eriksen has released his first statement after collapsing during Denmark’s friendly against Ukraine on Sunday, telling fans: “I’m doing well and I am at home with my family.”

The 34-year-old midfielder fell to the pitch in the 65th minute in Odense after clutching his chest. He briefly lost consciousness before his Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator, fitted after his 2021 cardiac arrest at Euro 2020, activated and brought him back.

Play was immediately stopped as medics rushed to Eriksen. Players from both teams formed a protective huddle. He regained consciousness and walked off the pitch, later discharged from hospital.

In a statement posted Monday, Eriksen moved to calm fears that this was a repeat of his near-fatal collapse against Finland six years ago.

“As you can imagine, receiving a shock from my ICD has had a major impact on both me and my family, but I want to reassure everyone that this was a different situation from what happened in 2021.
I am feeling good, and my recovery has already started. In addition to being grateful for the support and assistance of all the players and the medical team on the field, I am also incredibly grateful to the doctors who have cared for me and my heart over the years.
Thanks to their expertise, my ICD did exactly what it was designed to do: protect me when I needed it.
For now, my focus is on recovering, spending time with my family, going on vacation and playing football with my children.”
Different From 2021
Eriksen was quick to distinguish Sunday’s incident from his cardiac arrest at Euro 2020. That day, he “was gone from this world until they got my heartbeat back.” This time, the ICD shocked his heart back into rhythm almost immediately.
Denmark’s team doctor confirmed Eriksen briefly lost consciousness but was alert when leaving the field. The match was abandoned.

Eswatini, SA Eye Tech Partnership As PM Hosts Minister Nzimande For Higher Education Talks

SADC University of Technology takes center stage in bilateral meeting, with liberation ties underscoring deeper collaboration

MBABANE - Plans for a SADC University of Technology dominated talks on Monday afternoon as Prime Minister Russell Mmiso Dlamini hosted South Africa’s Minister of Higher Education, Science and Technology, Dr Blade Nzimande, at the Private and Cabinet Office.

The meeting shifted focus from history to the future. While Minister Nzimande thanked the Kingdom of Eswatini for its support during South Africa’s liberation struggle, both leaders quickly moved to concrete plans for cooperation in higher education, science, innovation and ICT.

Prime Minister used the courtesy visit to pitch Eswatini’s flagship project: the establishment of the SADC University of Technology. He told Minister Nzimande that innovation and information communication technologies will be pivotal to the institution and invited South Africa’s expertise and partnership.

“We are keen to strengthen collaboration with the Republic of South Africa in areas that will drive skills, research, and digital growth for the entire region,” Dlamini said.

Minister Nzimande welcomed the initiative. The two leaders agreed to task technical teams to explore possible areas of cooperation and partnership to advance the university project.

The visit blended diplomatic gratitude with a forward-looking agenda. Nzimande, speaking on behalf of the Government and people of South Africa, acknowledged Eswatini’s historic contribution to the liberation struggle. But the clear outcome was a shared commitment to build new ties in classrooms, labs, and innovation hubs.

With the SADC University of Technology on the horizon, Eswatini is positioning itself as a regional tech and education partner, and Monday’s meeting signaled that Pretoria is listening.

Nhlangano Kumbi Driver Makes History, Marries Two Wives In One Weekend Under Siswati Customary Law

Man weds two women in back-to-back ceremonies, story trends nationwide

NHLANGANO - Colane Makhundu Simelane has made history after marrying two women on the same weekend under Siswati customary law, an event that has the country talking.

The well-known kumbi driver from Nhlangano tied the knot with Ayanda Gamedze on Saturday. Gamedze will serve as the senior wife. On Sunday, Simelane married Nothando Mkhonta, who will be the junior wife.

The back-to-back weddings were conducted in line with Siswati custom and have since gone viral. Pictures of the ceremonies are circulating widely on social media platforms, drawing thousands of comments and shares.

First Reported By Swati Newsweek
The story was first broken by Swati Newsweek online publication, which posted images from both ceremonies. The report quickly spread, with many Eswatini residents calling it a rare and historic moment.

While polygamy is recognized under Eswatini’s customary law, marrying two wives on consecutive days is uncommon and has captured public attention. Simelane, popular in the Nhlangano transport community, is now trending across the kingdom.

Custom And Celebration
Under Siswati customary law, a man may take more than one wife, with the first wife typically holding senior status. Family and community members attended both ceremonies over the weekend, with traditional rites observed.

Social media reaction has ranged from congratulations to debate about modern marriage practices. Many users noted Simelane’s bold move and the smooth coordination of two weddings in 48 hours.

A Weekend To Remember
For Simelane, Gamedze, and Mkhonta, it was a weekend of tradition, commitment, and history. For the rest of the country, it will be the story of the year.
