Spring 2025 Times of the Islands is here.

ON THE COVER: Our favourite nature photographer Marta Morton took this lovely image of a passionflower growing by the sea. As you can read in the “Island Wildlife” feature, this flowering vine is laden with toxic chemicals that are consumed by Gulf Fritillary caterpillars, rendering them and the resulting butterflies unpalatable to predators.

Marta and her family run Harbour Club Villas (www.harbourclubvillas.com), a peaceful enclave on the south side of Providenciales. It offers her a variety of opportunities to photograph TCI’s “Beautiful by Nature” landscape.

One of our key feature writers, Ben Stubenberg, has just published The Jamaican Bobsled Captain. It is based on an article Ben wrote for the Times of the Islands Summer 2022 issue, TCI Bobsledder. The new book centers on Tal's improbable journey from humble origins as the son of missionaries on Grand Turk to world-class bobsledder. Yes, the captain of the original Jamaican bobsled team that crashed violently at the 1988 Winter Olympics and became the inspiration for the hit movie "Cool Runnings" was born here in TCI. Unlike the Disney film about the lovable underdog team the true story about the real Jamaican Bobsledders reveals a far more compelling tale about a come-back against all odds.

Because we can't get enough of the "Octopus Garden' mural at The Bight Park painted by artist Hernan Jurado Quintero. He inspires us to celebrate, explore and protect the beautifully diverse natural ecosystems that we are a part of.

He’s been a professional photographer for 15 years, traveling the world capturing images of nature from beautiful destinations. He says, “From the moment I first saw Turks & Caicos from the airplane window I knew this place was going to be different. On our first night at Grace Bay, we were blessed with a glorious sunset and the colors of the sky and water were truly mind blowing.”
