🌴 How to Grow a Date Palm from a Pit: Simple Step-by-Step Guide

Step 1: Preparing the Seeds
– Choose fresh, preferably organic dates. Eat the fruit and save the pits.
– Wash the pits thoroughly to remove any remaining fruit.
– Soak them in warm water for 1–2 days, changing the water daily to help soften the shell.

Step 2: Sprouting the Seeds
– Place the pits in a moist medium like damp paper towels, sand, or peat moss.
– Keep them in a warm place (between 70°F and 85°F / 21°C–29°C), like near a heater.
– Germination can take a few weeks to several months, so be patient.

Step 3: Planting the Sprouted Seeds
– Use small pots with well-draining soil.
– Plant each sprouted pit about 1 inch (2.5 cm) deep, with the pointed end facing up.
– Place the pots in a bright area with indirect sunlight.

Step 4: Caring for the Seedlings
– Keep the soil consistently moist but not soggy.
– Maintain warmth and humidity. Mist the leaves if the air is dry.
– Once the seedlings grow stronger, transplant them to larger pots or into the garden.

Step 5: Long-Term Maintenance
– As the palm grows, it will need more light—eventually full sun.
– Water regularly, letting the soil dry slightly between waterings.
– Feed with fertilizer every 2–3 months during the growing season.

🌱 Be patient: Date palms grow slowly, but over time, they become beautiful and majestic trees.

Understanding chicken diarrhea: what the color tells you and how to treat it

yellow diarrhea
This often indicates coccidiosis or a bacterial infection such as clostridial enteritis. It may also appear when digestion is disturbed by stress or feed changes.
treatment:

1. for coccidiosis, add amprolium 20% powder at 1 gram per 2 liters of drinking water for 5 to 7 days
2. for bacterial infection, give oxytetracycline at 1 gram per liter of water for 5 days
3. follow up with a probiotic supplement to restore healthy gut flora

green diarrhea
This usually comes from excess bile pigments due to rapid gut transit or an infection. Stress and certain diseases can also play a role.
treatment:

1. provide a multivitamin and electrolyte solution to support recovery
2. if a bacterial infection is suspected, use enrofloxacin 10% oral solution at 1 ml per liter of water for 3 to 5 days
3. isolate affected birds to prevent spread

white diarrhea
White, chalky droppings point to a yeast or fungal overgrowth (candidiasis) or a general imbalance in gut flora, often after antibiotics or poor hygiene.
treatment:

1. give nystatin oral suspension at 100,000 IU per liter of water for 5 to 7 days
2. thoroughly clean and disinfect feeders and drinkers before refilling
3. avoid unnecessary antibiotics and include probiotics in the diet

red or bloody diarrhea
This is a sign of severe coccidiosis, intestinal bleeding, or heavy parasite load. mortality can be high if not treated quickly.
treatment:

1. administer amprolium 20% at 1 gram per 1.5 liters of water for 7 days
2. for mixed infections, use a sulfaquinoxaline combination product at the label’s recommended dosage
3. deworm with albendazole at 1 ml per liter of water for 2 days, repeat after 14 days
4. add vitamins A and K to the water to support healing and blood clotting

Maize farmers don't allow army worm 🐛 to damage your crops....

It has started raining again in some regions, if it rains reach your side do well to treat your maize against fall army worms and also carry our w**d management.

For army worms: you can treat with caterpillar force (20g) or try Hallakat (16ml per 16l knapsack sprayer).

For w**d management: spray emerged w**ds with any herbicides that contain nicolsulfuron as AI (herbicides like nicogold, nico action, guard force, striker etc) 100 to 150ml per 16l sprayer is okay depending on the w**d growth level. Ensure you spray when w**ds are still at the tender stage for it to be more effective if not increase the dosage.

Or if your field doesn't have grass w**d in them you can use herbicides with 2.4 D Amine as AI (herbicides like Amino force ) 75 to 120ml per 16 litres to knapsack sprayer.

With these tips your field should be free from pests and w**ds.

2 teaspoons ground nutmeg
3 tatashe peppers or 800g watery tomato puree
2 big onions
20cl vegetable oil

Corned beef

Cooking directions:

Add the vegetable oil and the bone marrow stock (optional). Slowly add the remaining water and stir

-Dish the Moi moi mix into containers of your choice, add egg/bone marrow/corned beef to each container, seal/cover and set them in the pot.
-Add as small quantity of water as possible at a time while cooking the Moi Moi so that the moi moi will not become watery when done (especially when using aluminium foil or uma leaves). The length of time you will cook your Moi Moi depends on the quantity and the Moi Moi container you used.

Note:If using Moi Moi containers, it is advisable to cook your Moi Moi for at least 1 hour, before checking it. Confirm that it is done by putting a knife through it, if the knife is stained with Moi Moi paste, then the Moi Moi is not done, but if the knife just has a slight smear of Moi Moi, then it's done. Also, when you cut through the Moi Moi, the insides will be set and not watery.
If you are cooking a few wraps of Moi Moi in a small pot on high heat, then it will only take about 45 minutes to get done while when you are cooking a large pot of Moi Moi, it will definitely take more than one hour.

𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐓𝐑𝐔𝐄 𝐌𝐄𝐀𝐍𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐎𝐅 𝐈𝐆𝐁𝐀 𝐍𝐊𝐖𝐔 𝐈𝐍 𝐈𝐆𝐁𝐎 𝐋𝐀𝐍𝐃

(“Igba Nkwu” literally means “wine carrying”), but it’s deeper than just holding a cup.

Traditional marriage (Igba Nkwu Nwanyi) in Igbo land is not just a wedding, it's a sacred celebration of family, identity, culture, and heritage. It is the heart of Igbo marital rites and carries centuries of tradition passed from generation to generation.

𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐈𝐭 𝐓𝐫𝐮𝐥𝐲 𝐌𝐞𝐚𝐧𝐬

Igba Nkwu represents:

• A formal approval and blessing by both families for the union.

• The public recognition of the bride's worth, dignity, and family background.

• A symbol of unity between two families, not just two people.

• A cultural stamp that says, “This woman is now officially part of her husband’s family, with pride and honor.”

It’s more than love, it’s about honor, negotiation, and tradition.

𝐍𝐎𝐓𝐀𝐁𝐋𝐄 𝐅𝐄𝐀𝐓𝐔𝐑𝐄𝐒 𝐎𝐅 𝐈𝐆𝐁𝐀 𝐍𝐊𝐖𝐔

𝟏. 𝐈𝐣𝐮 𝐀𝐣𝐮𝐣𝐮 (𝐁𝐚𝐜𝐤𝐠𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝 𝐂𝐡𝐞𝐜𝐤 & 𝐈𝐧𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐫𝐲)
The groom’s family discreetly investigates the bride’s background and vice versa; health, character, family reputation. No surprises later!
2. 𝐈𝐤𝐮 𝐀𝐤𝐚 (𝐊𝐧𝐨𝐜𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐃𝐨𝐨𝐫)
The groom's family formally visits the bride's family with gifts like wine and kola nuts to declare intentions. It’s the “introduction” stage.

3. 𝐔𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐧𝐚 𝐌𝐞𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠
The groom's family meets with the bride’s extended family (the umunna) to discuss marriage intentions and confirm there are no objections.

4. 𝐁𝐫𝐢𝐝𝐞 𝐏𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐍𝐞𝐠𝐨𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 (𝐈𝐦𝐞 𝐄𝐠𝐨)
Here, items listed on the "bride price list" are presented. It’s not about buying the bride but showing appreciation to her family for raising her well.

5. 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐖𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐫𝐲𝐢𝐧𝐠 (𝐈𝐠𝐛𝐚 𝐍𝐤𝐰𝐮 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐫)
This is the grand finale:

o The bride, beautifully adorned in George wrappers, beads, and traditional coral jewelry, dances in with her maidens.

o She searches for her groom in the crowd (pretending not to know where he is

o When she finds him, she kneels and offers him 𝐚 𝐜𝐚𝐥𝐚𝐛𝐚𝐬𝐡 𝐨𝐫 𝐜𝐮𝐩 𝐨𝐟 𝐩𝐚𝐥𝐦 𝐰𝐢𝐧𝐞.

o Once he drinks, she leads him to her parents, they bless the union. BOOM! They are officially married in the eyes of the community.

6. 𝐂𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐆𝐚𝐥𝐨𝐫𝐞
Music, dancing, food, and cultural displays fill the air. Masquerades may even show up. It’s a true festival of love and pride.

𝐖𝐡𝐲 𝐈𝐭’𝐬 𝐒𝐭𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐑𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐯𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐓𝐨𝐝𝐚𝐲

In a fast-changing world, Igba Nkwu keeps the roots of Igbo culture alive. It teaches respect for elders, promotes family unity, and passes on values in a deeply symbolic way.

Whether you're watching it or participating, Igba Nkwu is an emotional, colorful, and spiritual experience; a celebration where tradition meets love!

HISTORY OF EZZA EZEKUNA PEOPLE

The origin of Ezza began from Onueke which is known as the ancestral home of Ezza people called OKPOKU EZEKUNA. EZEKUNA is the progenitor of Ezza while ANYIGOR is the wife while EKUMENYI is the father of EZZA, IZZI And IKWO, EZZA is the elderly son among the three sons of EKUMENYI that's why the only difference in their tone and three of them form what we see today as ABAKALIKI, they refer to themselves as UMUEKUMENYI

The great People of Ezza can be found in 6 out 13 local government in Ebonyi state .
Ezza is an Igbo sub-group, in Southeastern Nigeria . Ezzas are collectively referred to by the singular name Ezza or Ezza-Ezekuna in reference to their progenitor. Ezza tribe ,are found predominantly in Ebonyi State , mainly Ebonyi Central and in great numbers in Ebonyi North and South. Ezza have twenty two notable communities across Ebonyi state, prominent amongst them include;

1.Umuezeokaoha
2.Umuezeoka
3.Umuoghara
4.Oriuzor
5.Ezzama
6.Amudo
7.Ameka
8.Amuzu
9.Amana
10.Amagu
11.Amaezekwe
12.Amawula
13.Nkomoro
14.Ogboji
15.Okoffia
16.Inyere
17.Ekka
18.Echara
19.Idembia
20.Nsokara
21.Abaomege
22.Ukawu.

They also live in various communities such as Effium in Ohaukwu LGA, Ezillo in Ishielu LGA, Abaomege, Ukawu, etc; and a very significant number live in parts of Enugu, Benue, Cross River States and other parts of Nigeria. Ezza generally are very industrious and the language is spoken in Ebonyi.

EZZA NEW YAM FESTIVAL

EZZA New yam festival is normally celebrate around July and August on orie market after cleaning of compound, EZZA is normal the first to celebrate New yam festival in Ebonyi state regarding their position as the elderly son before izzi, ikwo mgbo etc will celebrate theirs.
EZZA New Yam festival known as Oke-Aku aka (nne efi oha) Festival is still revered and celebrated with pomp and grandeur. The festival marks the commencement of a new calendar year for the EZZAS. It signifies the end of the planting season, especially the planting of yam and the ushering in of the new yam. Yam is so much celebrated in all EZZA land and other Igboland culturally because yam is regarded as the king of crops.

EZZAS, the descendants of EZEKUNA and his wife, ANYIGOR is one of the most populous clan in Nigeria with twenty-two (22) traditional communities and over 10,000 villages in Ebonyi, Enugu and Benue state respectively, having her ancestral headquarter at ONUEKE in Ezza South LGA of Ebonyi state.
As a matter of fact, EZZA-EZEKUNA people all over the world have their lineage traced back to the above mentioned communities, hence the Oke-Aku Festival takes place in all their towns, villages and homes.
The EZZAS in those areas mentioned above still offers sacrifices at the shrine of Ezekuna (Nguji Ozo Ezekuna) at Amana ONUEKE. The shrine is known to be the grave of Ezekuna their progenitor. This exercise is performed to solicit for a death-free and prosperous New year.
NOTE; no one dares to harvest, sell or eat NEW YAM anywhere in Ezza land until the Oke-Aku festival is observed or else there will be fatal repercussions "People will start dying gradually with many unusual things happening in that person's family". Inorder To avert these, Sacrifices are offered to the gods to appease their anger against those who through hunger had eaten the New yam before the day of the festival.

The Eke day before the Orie Oke-Aku festival day also called Eke-Uwhu-Awha-Lunaa-Awha is for making purchases, while the night before the feast is a double night, a holy night (the old is said to be driven away, while the new is said to be welcomed by the beating of any available instruments like drum, accompanied by shout of "Ejo-Awha Laaoo!(unfruitful year go) This action is performed at about midnight. On the day of the feast: Ishi-nééwhi-oha (Oke-aku day); a place sited in front of a compound where all yam peels are deposited, head of unripped palm kernel and a little chicken and pepper are all hung there for all family members who died childless (Ejo-maa 👉bad spirit).
On Orie Oke-Aku day, the elders among those living in Ezekuna's compound in Amana in ONUEKE who over the years are entrusted with the task of looking after the palm farm of Ezekuna will bring all the kernel and oil for the year to share among the sons of Ezekuna. The representatives of all Ezza communities, usually come to collect their share of the kernels and oil. On returning home, these elders representing their communities are being welcomed by the family members by presenting the Kola plate (Ukpara, old yam, Aku-Nsuaku(kernel), Kola, Coconut and Meat for the ritual that begins the Festival proper. The representatives prays and blesses the rest of their family members. After this, he divides the old yam in Small slices this wife or wives, neighbours and well wishers. The kicking off of the celebration is done by the father of each family while sitting on his okpoku.

"Stubborn Women Are Always Failures!"👇🏾 |

Written by Mrs Amina Al-Harbi, social consultant

Stubborn women fail in their marriages, and even in their relationships with relatives.

Women who lack emotional intelligence and flexibility in dealing with people around them, are the biggest failures in their marriages and their lives. Why?

She enters into an egoistic tug of war with her husband, and prefers the voice of her ego to try to overcome him, and in fact she fails before the ego of her husband and the ego of those who are around her, because men become more stubborn in front of a stubborn wife and stubborn sister, and they become more gentle in front of a submissive woman.

A headstrong woman thinks that she can win while insisting on her opinion, and she can stand in front of any opposition. She forgets that even if she wins by her obstinacy in her opinion and stand, she loses the heart that was loving her and caring for her.

Many narrations and wise proverbs in all the cultures have praised an easy-going, soft, friendly, patient and enduring woman. Even the Messenger (peace and blessings be on him) and the Companions after him, recommended and praised a woman who respects her husband and speaks with softness and wisdom, and in turn he will love her and never leave her.

The woman who will obey her husband and stoop to let the storm pass; she is the wise, rational woman who thrives, and holds the family together. The woman who stands like an unyielding dry stick is the one who breaks, suffering irreparable damage.

The uncompromising woman clings to her opinion. She tries to constantly perpetuate the illusion of her victory: I win and you lose, I am right and you are wrong. Such a woman destroys herself before destroying others. And she lives a life of sorrowful despondency in this world and the hereafter.

From my experiences in marital counseling, I found that mulish women end up in divorce. And bitterly fail in their family and social life. The even end up destroying her own father family and his siblings'

The advice of a bedouin Arab woman to her daughter on the day of her marriage, is considered by all the successful women the best advice for a woman. She said:
"Be his slave......and surely he becomes your imminent slave".
"Men are kind, generous and benevolent, but a stubborn, foolish woman turns them into enemies."

Finally I quote a wise Sheikh (may God have mercy on him):

I was a civil court judge for 27 years.........and I found that most of the divorce incidents are caused by the anger of a man, and by the foolish responses of a woman.
In other words, the stubbornness of a woman makes a man ten times more stubborn than her.

Well, in these days of feminism and female affirmative action, l find that the perceptions young women have about what should be their relationship with their spouses is seriously blighted by ego and impatience. They are not willing to work on their inherent flaws and feel the man should be the one to adjust to their own idiosyncrasies. I personally think the above tips works and any woman who wants to make a success of her marriage will do well to follow them.
