The iconic Wallace’s Flying Frog (Rhacophorus nigropalmatus) from the jungle of Khao Sok. This was a must see frog for us and after not seeing them on the last trip (but two other similar species), we were particularly keen to find them this trip. We actually saw a handful of these large frogs hanging around a puddle on the track. There was even an Elegant Bronzeback sharing the tree with them!
The Flying Frogs are a large genus covering much of South-east Asia and they’ve contributed to some of the biggest highlights of h**ping Asia for me.

What a moment. After some big days walking through the jungle in Singapore, we finally found the Malaysian Blue Coral Snake (Calliophis bivirgata) - one of the most stunning snakes on Earth.
I could talk about how cool this snake is forever but instead, I’ve posted the full videon YouTube! Check out the link in the comments!! 🐍🔗

A beautiful Malayan Krait (Bungarus candidus) found foraging along a stream near Krabi in Southern Thailand. I was pretty stoked to properly find this species after losing an unbanded animal in Bali a few years ago.
Despite having the most toxic venom in Asia, they are very well natured snakes and bites are extremely unlikely. They’ve got a pretty varied diet too. On top of eating other snakes they’ve been recorded eating eels, frogs, lizards and rodents. This snake must be living the high life as all those prey items were plentiful along this stream.

Wasn’t sure where to begin with the pics from our trip but figured the iconic Wagler’s Pit Viper (Tropidolaemus wagleri) was a good start. We didn’t actually spot any of these at night but walking the jungle through the day produced a couple of nice Wagler’s sleeping in some exposed places. We were able to see some nice diversity as well, from a transition phase female (Pic 1, 3 & 4), to an adult female (Pic 2) and even a few males (Pic 5). They’re a common species but definitely not one that ever gets boring. All pics taken in situ.

A few head shots of some Keelbacks I’ve seen in Australia and South-east Asia. Natricines are a large, diverse family with a mix of harmless, highly venomous and even poisonous snakes! Many are frog specialists and are adapted to the Bufo toxin found in Toads - a helpful adaptation for Australian Keelback when the Cane Toad was introduced.
1. Banded Keelback (Rhabdoohis nigrocinctus). Khao Sok, Thailand
2. Freshwater Snake (Tropidonophis mairii). Darwin, NT
3. Speckle-bellied Keelback (Rhabdophis chrysargos). West Bali, Indonesia
4. Triangle Keelback (Xenochrophis trianguligerus). Krabi, Thailand

Some winter flipping from a couple of days out west recently. There’s been a few cool finds but I think my favourite was 6 Red-naped Snakes and 2 Yellow-faced Whip Snakes within a few metres of each other. Those Red-napes are at the end of the vid (which is not how they were found).
