ปี 2098 “เฟย์” อาศัยอยู่ในเมืองเวียงพิงค์ที่ถูกฝุ่นพิษและภัยพิบัติทำลายสิ่งแวดล้อมจนเกือบสิ้นซาก เธอดูแล “หยดน้ำ” ผู้ป่วยจากมลภาวะร้ายแรงที่ใกล้เสียชีวิต เมื่อพายุลูกใหญ่กำลังจะถล่มเมือง หยดน้ำขอร้องให้เฟย์พาเธอไปใช้เครื่อง “ปลั๊กอิน” เพื่อเข้าสู่โลกเสมือนที่จำลอง “เชียงใหม่” ในอดีต — เมืองที่เธอไม่เคยได้เห็น เฟย์ลังเล เพราะอดีตของเธอในโลกนั้นเต็มไปด้วยความเจ็บปวด แต่สุดท้ายเธอก็เลือกพาหยดน้ำไป ในโลกเสมือน หยดน้ำได้เห็นธรรมชาติที่เธอไม่เคยสัมผัส สูดลมหายใจบริสุทธิ์ วิ่งเล่นกับเด็ก ๆ เห็นผู้คนหัวเราะ และเข้าใจความหมายของ “สิ่งที่เราควรรักษา” ก่อนเธอจะจากไปตลอดกาล เธอฝากความหวังให้เฟย์มีชีวิตต่อ และสัญญาว่าจะดูแลโลกนี้ให้อยู่รอด… เพื่อคนรุ่นต่อไป In the year 2098, Fay lives in Viengping City, a place nearly destroyed by toxic dust and environmental disasters. She takes care of Yodnam, who suffers from severe pollution-related illness and is close to death. As a massive storm approaches the city, Yodnam begs Fay to take her to use the “Plug-In” device — a gateway into a virtual world that recreates Chiang Mai from the past, a city she has never seen. Fay hesitates, for her own past in that virtual world is filled with pain. But in the end, she chooses to take Yodnam there. Within the simulation, Yodnam experiences nature she has never known. She breathes clean air, runs and plays with children, witnesses people laughing, and finally understands the meaning of “what must be preserved.” Before leaving forever, she entrusts Fay with her final wish — to go on living, and to promise that she will protect this world… for the generations to come.
