Protect Rivers, Protect People

On March 14, Karen Rivers Watch (KRW), together with Karen civil society organizations, marked International Day of Action for Rivers along the Salween River in the Kawthoolei–Thai border area.

Communities came together in solidarity to raise their voices against dam projects and to stand for the protection of one of the last free-flowing rivers in the region " Salween River". It is for defending nature, livelihoods, and future generations.

This year, the graduation of a Grade 12 student from Taw Naw High School in Karen State. Because of the war in their area, the school could not hold graduation for two years.
Even during these difficult times, the student did not give up. They continued to attend school and study hard.
This graduation is not only about finishing Grade 12, but also about courage and determination. We are proud of this achievement and wish them success in the future. 🎓

The Karen Student Network Group (KSNG) held its 30th General Meeting and 16th Leadership Election from 28–31 January 2026. About 80 student representatives from seven Karen refugee camps, border areas, and Kawthoolei attended.

During the meeting, they reviewed KSNG’s work, discussed the current political and social situation, and agreed on a plan for 2026. They also elected a new leadership team for the 2026–2027 term.

We are a people who deeply value human rights and uphold international conventions and treaties. Yet across Burma especially in Karen State, our people continue to face killings, indiscriminate artillery shelling, and relentless attacks by the Burma military.

Even in the face of violence and oppression, we continue to stand for justice, human dignity, and fundamental human rights.
