Police Arrest Female Thief Who Stole Over 200,000 Baht from Famous Noodle Shop in Naklua
A 49-year-old woman was arrested in Sri Racha after allegedly breaking into the second-floor living quarters of a well-known fish noodle restaurant in Na Kluea market and stealing valuables worth more than 200,000 baht as we first reported here.
The arrest took place at 7:00 p.m. on November 13th, following orders from Pol. Col. Sarawut Nuchanart, chief of Banglamung Police Station. Pol. Lt. Col. Kornpong Sukwisit, deputy chief of investigation, and Pol. Lt. Col. Wutthiphong Kasa, head of the detective unit, led the operation.
The victim, Ms. Anjana Rattanaphisankul, 40, owner of the noodle shop, reported the theft on November 12th. She told police that while she was serving customers downstairs around noon, a woman sneaked upstairs to her bedroom and stole several items. Security cameras clearly captured the suspect’s face and actions.
Acting on a tip from Sri Racha residents, officers located the suspect, Ms. Suthasini Chalinthon, 49, in Soi Khao Taeng On. A search revealed stolen items including a diamond ring, a Cartier ring, and an Apple iPad – all matching the victim’s description.
Police then searched the suspect’s rented room in Sri Racha market, recovering clothing worn during the crime, additional belongings, and some foreign currency. However, a valuable amulet – “Luang Pho Hom” from Wat Chak Mak, first edition, encased in gold – remains missing.
During questioning, Ms. Suthasini confessed. She said she fled to Banglamung to avoid a drug crackdown in Sri Racha, where she feared arrest due to her drug use. While walking and looking for acquaintances, she spotted the unguarded noodle shop, entered, and stole the items before returning to Sri Racha. She also admitted to taking two methamphetamine pills before her arrest.
Ms. Anjana, accompanied by her partner, visited Banglamung Police Station to identify the recovered items. Most of her property was returned, except the gold-encased amulet. She thanked police for their swift action in apprehending the suspect and recovering the stolen goods.
A urine test confirmed the presence of drugs in the suspect’s system. She is being held for further questioning to locate the missing amulet and will face charges of theft and drug possession.
