Kembali (Means 'return' in Indonesia)
At first, the white elephants that are seen as sacred animals greeted us while we entered the gate to represent a new beginning. But then, we saw the world change. We were forced to be far apart. It made us sad, angry, and everything fell to pieces, including our hopes. Afterwards, when we felt like we had hit the bottom, we started to look deep into ourselves. It gave us time to return home, go back to meet our family, our friends, and our loved ones. To return to our culture, our tradition, and our values.
Things slowly got better again. But suddenly a masked figure Tosakanth (Ravana) appeared. The demon king from Thailand myth who destroyed everything that displeased him, lurked beneath the shadow. He was then replaced by the appearance of the barong mask.
This scene is inspired by the story of Barong and Rangda in Balinese culture, which represents the eternal battle of good versus evil. Interestingly, war generally aims to defeat the enemy. However, in this traditional Balinese dance, the war between them is not to cancel each other out, but to achieve a balance between the two opposing forces, made in harmony with one another.
Evil like Rangda, or maybe Tosakanth who brings destruction to society, must be balanced through the fight with Barong, the symbol of good. Although opposing each other, both are part of human life and necessary for the balance of the world.
Wish or hope, the thing that keeps us humans alive and gives us a reason to live day by day. Maybe, things won't always be good, but they certainly won't always be bad. Everything will return to where it should be.
From this projection mapping, our team wishes that this world could be better soon. That all the evil things will soon be replaced by the good and our hearts can return to peace and become strong after all the chaos that happened. Just wish and pray.
