So, the other day, my young neighbor, who'd just moved into the neighborhood and loves throwing parties, came to me with a favor. She'd had another one of her wild parties, and then she got called out of town for work.

She asked if I could clean up the mess at her place and, of course, offered to pay. I agreed — extra cash is always nice, right?

I specifically asked my daughter and her husband to take good care of my home while I was in the hospital. That's why it was especially heartbreaking when I found out that they had listed it for rent. I was devastated when I saw the listing.

MY 4-YEAR-OLD SON GOT EXTREMELY UPSET EVERY TIME MY MIL BABYSAT HIM — WHEN I FOUND OUT WHY, I GOT REVENGE.

I noticed that my 4-year-old son became anxious every time my mother-in-law was supposed to come over to watch him.

One evening, he started crying and blurted out through his tears, "I don't want Grandma to stay with me!"

I was shocked and had to rush to the hospital for my shift, so I didn't have time to find a replacement, but his reaction really worried me.

"But why, sweetie?" I asked. "Because... Because Grandma acts strange," he said through his tears.

After parking the plane, the captain and his first officer followed protocol by waiting for all passengers to disembark before leaving the cockpit. When it was their turn to leave, he opened the cockpit door and saw the flight purser talking to a man who refused to leave the plane.

I was bagging groceries for a kind elderly couple when a woman stormed in, dragging her young son. Her presence immediately shattered the peace as she made a beeline for my checkout lane.

"Why are there no more of those organic apples?! I need two bags!" she demanded, her voice sharp and accusatory as if I had hidden the apples from her. I explained calmly that they were out of stock, but this only fueled her anger.

So, it seemed like any other day — at least, I thought it was.

I got home late from work, like usual. The house was dead silent, and when I called out for my wife, Emily, and daughter, Mia, no one answered. At first, I didn't think much of it — maybe they were out or at Mia's friend's house.

But then, I saw Mia's lunchbox sitting on the kitchen table. That was odd. Emily always made sure everything was cleaned up, especially Mia's stuff. For some reason, I walked over, opened the lunchbox, and saw it: a folded note sitting on top of Mia's half-eaten lunch.
