The Royal Thai Embassy in Washington, D.C., officially opened Sawasdee DC 2025 on September 14 with a ceremony at the National Mall. Organized with partner agencies from both Thailand and the United States, the event welcomed residents, tourists, and media in a festive atmosphere filled with cultural showcases and activities.
Ambassador of Thailand Dr. Suriya Chindawongse, Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt, and District of Columbia Secretary Kimberly Bassett jointly presided over the launching ceremony of the festival, a day-long celebration of Thai heritage at one of the capital’s most iconic landmarks.
Sawasdee DC 2025 is the largest Thai festival in Washington. Held under the theme “The Best of Thailand,” the event celebrates 192 years of Thailand–United States diplomatic relations while also coinciding with preparations for America’s 250th anniversary. The program presents Thai products, innovations, and contemporary cultural expressions to showcase the nation’s identity to a global audience.
The event has expanded considerably since 2023, when it drew more than 30,000 visitors. This year’s festival features a larger venue and more vendors, placing it among major gatherings in the region for sharing Thai culture with both American and international communities.
