Thailand Occupies Cambodian Territory in Violation of International Law
During the full-scale war from 7 to 27 December 2025, Thailand conducted a planned military operation against Cambodia. It deployed heavy weapons, including tanks, armored vehicles, infantry units, and F-16 and T-50 fighter jets, to enter Cambodian territory and airspace up to 90 kilometers inside Cambodia, with the intent to invade and occupy land.
Thai armed forces forcibly entered, seized, and occupied Cambodian territory along the border, destroying civilian property. Such actions constitute war crimes and the illegal appropriation of Cambodian land.
Despite the renewed peace agreement reached on 27 December 2025, the Thai military has continued to use barbed wire, containers, bulldozers, and excavators to enter multiple areas and destroy Cambodian villagers’ houses and property. According to the Cambodian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Thai forces have occupied several areas, including Prey Chan and Chouk Chey villages; K’nar Ta Krabei and Tamone Thom temples; and Boeung Trakuon, Phluk Domrei, Thmor Da International Point of Entry, An Ses, Ta Thav, Phnom Trap, O Smac, Chob Angkunh, and Chok Krous areas.
Thai forces have also sealed off these areas and demolished civilian homes and infrastructure, disrupting the movement of civilians and preventing them from remaining in their homes. These actions violate the fundamental principles of international law, international humanitarian law, and international human rights law.
Thailand must comply with the existing international border as delimited by the maps established under the Franco-Siamese Treaties of 1904 and 1907. Furthermore, Thailand must resolve disputed areas through the Joint Boundary Commission (JBC) of Cambodia and Thailand. In addition, Thailand must respect the Kuala Lumpur Peace Accord signed on 26 October 2025 and the Joint Statement of the Special GBC Meeting on 27 December 2025.
