In the upcoming Hong Kong Community Connections by the Community Business Network, we are getting to the bottom of why internships are not turning into long term employment opportunities in Hong Kong as we aim to ideate with both our partners in the private sector and in the civil society and non-profit space.

This is a month too late but excited to share that I celebrated my 1st anniversary with Community Business recently. Jumping ship from Corporate to NGO was a scary feat. From adjusting into a smaller, leaner organization to balancing community impact with leadership and sustainability, it's been an amazing journey with such an amazing team.

For every work anniversary, Community Business asks our coworkers to share one adjective about us and it's been heart-warming and encouraging to get this from my team.

I am privileged to be in a position that allows focus on impactful work and I look forward to more exciting things ahead. Making an impact, one life at a time, within our team and the broader community.

Making Inclusion Work: Tools, Tech & Talent.

3rd in Community Business' Community Connections series this year, this time in Shanghai! Made possible by a dear friend, Curtis Baker and our Community Business Team, Bijita, Yee Lin, Amit, Nisha.

Accessibility is more than ramps and elevators. It's about recognising and designing for the full spectrum of human ability.

In this event, we once more created a space for communities and businesses to make lasting connections for impact.

At the interorg, intercompany event in Bangkok last week, we got together with friends and advocates for LGBTQ+ inclusion in Thailand.

Themed with "Celebration and Beyond Pride Month", I represented Community Business in facilitating a panel with Steph Galera-Robles from Open for Business, Nikki Natthineethiti of ทรานส์ทาเลนท์ and Jay Pongruengphant of UNDP. We talked about how each of our organizations are partnering with various sectors on advancing rights of our community, as well as what's next after marriage equality.

It was a great ending to such an eventful week, commemorating pride with different companies, sharing good food, drinks, laughter and stories.

It also felt like a reunion having seen everyone again!

In collaboration with The Royal Thai Government, the Delegation of the European Union to Thailand, the Australian Embassy, the Embassy of Canada and the British Embassy in Bangkok co-hosted a pride reception to celebrate Pride.

Such a nice evening of celebration and getting together with friends in the advocacy, a warm reminder of the huge LGBTQ+ community we have around us.

𝗪𝗲’𝗿𝗲 𝗼𝗻𝗹𝘆 𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗳𝘄𝗮𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝗣𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝗠𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗵, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗜’𝘃𝗲 𝗵𝗮𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗹𝗲𝗴𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝗻𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗹𝘆 𝗮 𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘂𝘀𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗮𝗰𝗿𝗼𝘀𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗼𝗻.

That means a thousand more people now thinking about how they support the Pride community. But it also means:

✔️Maintaining positivity and resilience during a tough time for many of us.
✔️Reliving trauma through every story told.
✔️And yes, exhaustion—not from lack of passion, but from the emotional weight of it all.

𝗔𝘀 𝗮𝗻 𝗲𝗺𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗵, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗯𝗶𝗽𝗼𝗹𝗮𝗿, 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘀𝗲 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗴𝗲𝘁 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝘃𝘆 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗺𝗲. 𝗕𝘂𝘁 𝗜’𝗺 𝗽𝘂𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵. And I will continue to do so all year-round.

So please—don’t do a Pride event just for the sake of doing one.

𝗠𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗯𝗲 𝗱𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝘆𝗼𝗻𝗱 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀.

Small, intentional spaces where the community feels safe can go a long way.

I’m deeply grateful for every space committed to learning and advancing inclusion. But I urge you: 𝗱𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁 𝗯𝗲𝘆𝗼𝗻𝗱 𝗣𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝗠𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗵.

Many LGBTQ+ communities are struggling—funding is being pulled, people are criminalized for simply existing, families, including mine, have been and are being torn apart by exclusionary systems.

If these events help even one person feel like being themselves is possible, then it’s worth it. But we need more than moments—we need 𝗺𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁.

𝗗𝗼 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲. 𝗗𝗼 𝗯𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿.

Because as I heard from good friend I shared the stage with today, Leow Yangfa: “The opposite of Pride is shame.”

Not everyone has the privileged to stop being ashamed.

We celebrate Pride because we 𝗔𝗟𝗟 want to stop being shameful.

This guidebook aims to empower the LGBTQIA+ community in the Philippines to better understand their rights, protect themselves and to confidently seek justice.

In another collaboration with Open for Business, Community Business brings its Social Mobility Campaign to the Philippines through the PFIP - Philippine Financial & Inter-Industry Pride Summit.

In our session "Wealth Beyond Labels: Driving Positive Social Mobility Towards Inclusive Economies" we talked about what composes inclusive cities, what drive upward social mobility and did a fast-paced workshop to turn our researches' wealth of data to drive impact.
