Juvenile delinquents. Two young brown bears entertain themselves by playing keep away with the park entrance sign ( you can hear the ranger reprimanding them in the background). The staff at Brooks Camp, Katmai National Park have to maintain a fine balancing act of allowing the bears to travel through park facilities to get to their feeding areas and keeping the public- and the facilities safe from the bears. Actually, more like keeping the bears safe from the 300+ visitors a day to Brooks Camp. Companies from many communities around the state profit from taking their customers to see this iconic species- even the fishermen come to the Brooks River for the spectacle of fishing amongst so many bears. I only hope that all of these companies truly appreciate how special these bears are- and the national park that protects them.
