Based in partnership with local communities, we work in three main areas: teacher training, reading and instructional material development, and advocacy and awareness raising, at all levels. This includes everything from developing an orthography to helping communities implement first language first education systems. We know that children who receive an education rooted in their lived experience,
based on their first language, they are better poised for success. These students also place more value on their language and culture and have a healthy sense of identity and self-worth. In addition, first language first education helps preserve the thousands of languages used in the world, including the 130+ languages spoken in Myanmar.
