"Do you think you can play games with me?" Brad growled, clenching his fists until his knuckles cracked. "Do you think... Your quiet act will work here, at Lincoln High?"
Emily slowly raised her head, and something in her eyes made the crowd hold their breath. A cold gleam that appeared in her gaze was nothing like fear.
"I'm not playing, Brad!" her voice sounded surprisingly calm. "I was just hoping you wouldn't force me to show who I really am."
"And who are you exactly?" he drawled mockingly, not suspecting that in five minutes he'd be lying on the ground, and the whole school would be talking about only one thing.

It all started on Monday morning at Lincoln High in the small town. The fog hadn't cleared yet when sixteen-year-old Emily Harris stepped through the doors of her new school. Her family had just moved from Detroit after her mother got a job at the local hospital, and for Emily, this was already her fourth move in the last three years.
Outwardly, nothing gave away anything special about her. Average height, slender girl with chestnut hair tied in a simple ponytail, in ordinary jeans and an unassuming hoodie. She tried to blend into the crowd, not attract attention, speak quietly when teachers addressed her.
But what no one knew could shock everyone in this school....
During lunch, Emily sat alone at a table in the corner of the cafeteria when a tall, broad-shouldered guy with a short haircut and an arrogant gaze approached her. Two friends followed him. "Hey, new girl," the leader said loudly, plopping down on the chair opposite. "I'm Brad, this is my school, my rules."
Emily looked up from her sandwich. "Nice to meet you, I'm Emily." But Brad leaned closer: "Just respect, say, a hundred bucks a day. For protection."
When they left, Emily clenched her fists under the table. She could end it all right now, but her promise to her mother held her back.
On Tuesday morning, the situation escalated. Brad and his friends intercepted her at the stairs. "I'm not going to pay you," Emily said firmly. The smile slipped from Brad's face.
What happened next became a real nightmare for Emily. At every break, they made her life miserable. In the cafeteria, Brad dumped soup on her lap. The cafeteria exploded with laughter.
Emily slowly stood up. "You made a big mistake," she said quietly.
