Grammar Lesson: Question Forms (Beginner)

❇️Introduction
In English, the word order changes when we ask a question. We usually need a "Helper Verb" (Auxiliary verb) to build the question.
အင်္ဂလိပ်စာမှာ မေးခွန်း မေးချင်တဲ့အခါ စကားလုံးကို နေရာပြောင်းလိုက်ရင် မေးခွန်းဖြစ်ပါတယ်။ မေးခွန်းဖြစ်ဖို့အတွက် Helper Verb လိုတယ်။
There are two main types of questions:
Yes/No Questions (The answer is "Yes" or "No")
Wh- Questions (The answer is information)
📍Part 1️⃣: Yes/No Questions
These questions are simple. You want to know if something is true or false.
ရိုးရှင်းတဲ့ မေးခွန်းမျိုးဖြစ်တယ်။ ဟုတ်လား၊ မဟုတ်လား သိချင်တဲ့အခါ Yes/No Questions နဲ့ မေးပါတယ်။
🅰️. Using the verb "To Be" (am, is, are)
When the main verb is "to be," we simply swap the subject and the verb.
အဓိက Verb က ( am, is, are ) တွေဖြစ်တဲ့ To Be တွေဆိုရင် Subject နဲ့ To Be တွေကို နေရာပြောင်းရပါမယ်။
Sentence Type Subject Verb Adjective/Noun

Statement (+). She is a teacher.
Question (?) Is she a teacher?
Statement: They are hungry.
Question: Are they hungry?
🅱️. Using "Do" and "Does" (Present Simple)
For most verbs (like play, work, eat, live), we cannot just swap the words. We need a Helper.
Present Simple ( လက်ရှိအချိန်ကာလမှာ သုံးတဲ့ Verbs တွေဆိုရင်တော့ နေရာပြောင်းလို့ မရပါဘူး။ Do/Does အကူကြီယာ လိုအပ်ပါတယ်။
Use Do for: I, You, We, They
Use Does for: He, She, It
Formula:
Do/Does + Subject + Verb (base form)
Helper Subject Main Verb Extra Info

Do. you live in London?
Does he play football?
Do they speak English?
Important: When using Does, the main verb loses the "s".
အရေးကြီးတာက Does နဲ့ မေးခွန်းလုပ်ရင် Main Verb မှာ -s မထည့်ရပါဘူး။
Statement: He likes pizza.
Question: Does he like pizza? (NOT: Does he likes pizza?)
📍Part 2️⃣: Wh- Questions (Information)
These questions ask for details. We use "Question Words" at the very beginning.
ဒီ မေးခွန်းအမျိုးအစားက အသေးစိပ်သိချင်တဲ့အဖြေရဖို့ မေးပါတယ်။ Wh- နဲ့ စတဲ့ မေးခွန်းစကားလုံး တွေနဲ့ စပါတယ်။
The Question Words
Who (People) ---> Who is that?
What (Things/Actions) ---> What is your name?
Where (Places) ---> Where are you going?
When (Time) ---> When do you wake up?
Why (Reason) ---> Why are you sad?
How (Method/Condition) ---> How do you cook rice?

The "Q.A.S.V." Rule
To build these questions correctly, remember this order: Q-A-S-V
မေးခွန်းကို မှန်ကန်စွာမေးဖို့၊ပြောဖို့ အတွက် Q-A-S-V အစဉ်အတိုင်း မေးခွန်းတည်ဆောက်ရပါတယ်။
1) Question Word
2) Auxiliary (Helper) Verb (is/are/do/does)
3) Subject (Person/Thing)
4) Verb (Action)
Q (Word) A (Helper) S (Subject) V (Verb)
