The composition and all the story underlying in this composition are the imagination of the composer which has been devised from the composer’s awareness about the Daowadung heaven in Buddhism. The performance contains the formulation of ingredients that denotes ‘Thai-ness’ through the context of western music in order to promote and honor national music to the world of western music and especially in the world of wind bands.

The nature of the piece is grounded in lyrical melodies and grand gestures, but also in minimal music. Especially movements three and four can be called minimal, with the repetitiveness and the strong pulse. Movements one and two are the most lyrical. In this symphony, he tried to grasp all his inspirations together to create a monumental work of art.

Written in 1993, while still studying with Ernesto Cordero at the University of Puerto Rico, these pieces have been performed widely. The first two, Grafístico – rápido and Grafístico – con sorpresa, are modeled after the Cinco estudios de grafía by Cuban composer Flores Chaviano. The third prelude, Tumbao, is inspired by Ernesto Cordero´s aesthetics, using afro-Caribbean rhythms. This one, in specific, is modeled after Raphy Leavitt´s bolero montuno, Payaso. This song is included in Raphy Leavitt y la Selecta first LP, “Payaso” in 1971, the same year Alberto Rodríguez Ortiz was born.

🌏 Featured: “Concerto for Clarinet”

For: Symphony Orchestra & Solo Clarinet (Grade 5)

Vaclav Nelhybel composed the "Concerto for Clarinet" with band accompaniment, premiering it in November 1982 with Harold Easley and the West Point Military Academy Concert Band. The later orchestral version premiered in March 2020 with Dr. Elizabeth Gunlogson and the University of New Hampshire Symphony Orchestra. Dedicated to clarinetist Frank Stachow, the work began in 1981 during his illness, according to the composer’s widow, Dorothea Nelhybel.
