5 Earthquakes Strike Myanmar, Mandalay Suffers Most Damage

The Department of Meteorology and Hydrology has reported that five earthquakes occurred near Mandalay, Myanmar, on March 28.
According to the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology, at 12:51:12 Myanmar Standard Time today, the Mandalay earthquake observatory recorded a very strong earthquake measuring 7.7 on the Richter scale, with its epicenter approximately 20 kilometers northeast of Mandalay and a depth of 10 kilometers.
As aftershocks, earthquakes measuring 7.5, 5.9, 4.7, and 4.9 on the Richter scale continued to occur between approximately 1:02 PM and 2:26 PM.
The very strong earthquake, measuring 7.7 on the Richter scale and the subsequent aftershocks caused some houses in Mandalay to collapse and suffer damage. The Mahamuni Pagoda's entrance arch, Mandalay University buildings, parts of the Mandalay Palace walls, and some buildings at the Masoeyein Dhammarakkhita Monastery were also damaged or collapsed.
A Mandalay resident said that they had to run downstairs from their building due to the prolonged shaking during the earthquake.
The old Sagaing Bridge also collapsed today due to the earthquake.
The earthquake also affected some major cities in Myanmar, as well as cities in Thailand along the earthquake fault line, including Bangkok, Chiang Mai, and Mae Sot.
In Bangkok's Chatuchak district, a building under construction collapsed, and the Thai government has reported that at least 43 Myanmar workers may be trapped inside.
