Lek and Stefan, Swedish/Hungarian—Thai couple have opened a very impressive distillery in Sanpatong and if you want to try hangover-nearly-free preservative-free and organic spirits at a high level of purity right here in Chiang Mai, then head on over for a quick tour of the distillery and a super fun tasting.
Water from a 130 metre well, untouched by any one else, a local workforce which peels and prepares seasonal fruit and a deep knowledge of distilling has meant that Sanpatong Distillery, in its very short lifespan, is already winning some very prestigious international awards. They make eau-de-vie, gin and vodka. And now offer up a great pairing with partners Jartisan Cheese and Siamaya Chocolate.
Sanpatong Distillery’s awards include a bronze medal for their Imagin Blue gin—get it? I’m-a-gin—at the London Spirits Competition, a silver medal for their Rebel White rum as well as a general recognition of quality. “The only thing we import is aquavit,” said Stefan, who says they are very proud of all of their locally sourced organic ingredients.
