School History
Since 2008, Shwe Tha Zin Learning Centre has been providing education to children from Burma living in the Mae Sot area. Due to political, economic and social crises by military predecessor and successors for over five decades in Burma, majority grass- root level classes are very difficult for survival inside the country, as a result a large number of suffering civilian people have
been taking refuge into Thailand, with illegal migrant status, this being the case, this learning center was Mae Sot District, Tak province, Thailand in to fill up needed educational blanks for the migrant children.
2. School Goal
We (Shwe Tha Zin Learning Center) believe that Education is main resources for country. To get equally education for all of youth who are from Myanmar as a migrant worker’s Children safely staying and studying. To create and provide educational opportunities for less fortunate children, orphans, and also protect children and youth’s rights, and value.
3. School Community
There are over 2000 migrant workers the school quarter area .The school community are from Myanmar to service their life. Most of they are farmers and factory workers. They have many children but they can’t able to attend Thai school because their parents don’t have any legal work permit information for working, event though free treatment in government hospital. In order to improve the living standards of this quarter within this district, STZ Learning Center has conducted a social survey in order to understand the quarter’ needs and, based on this, has promoted supportive community development in this school community. For example: Culture celebrative, cleaning compound, Planting, reduced rubbish campaign, workers rights information sharing etc. We try to based on not only our school community but also depend on NGOs, to run our school for safe education on other hand, some workers and some donor usually help for our school as they can but it is biggest challenge to partnership with our school community workers because their jobs are not good and also they are not free for helping or cooperation with us. These strange people are working on farms or factories to work hard for survival. Sometime our school committee team go and meet with them.
4. Current Situation
Glocal Action Taiwan donated monthly 10,000 Baht for school transportation last year in 2016-2017 Academic year. Glocal Action Taiwan is continuing to keep in touch with the for 2017-2018 school Academic year. We are very proud for your kindness to our kids. In this situation our school can run but is also transferred; for learning costs, transportation of students, land rent fee, government fee etc. We depend on our school environment workers. Sometime they couldn’t help our school because they don’t get enough money. There is not any supporting for not only car rent for ferry but also school land rent, including, teachers’ salary, electricity fee, using water fee and internet. Although it is still difficult to run, "Orchid Primary schools" still lack adequate funding for additional teachers, nutrition lunches and so on. There are over 115 students in Shwe Tha Zin School in 2017-2018 school years. We have some problem for lunch because we don’t have enough supplement for students lunch. The 40 % of students couldn’t bring for lunch because some parents are poor nor busy their works. They have to go earliest to their works. That is why the school teachers cooked lunch for students which some kids doesn’t bring for lunch and feed them but we don’t have enough dry food. We are strongly trying to run out for 2017-2018 Academic year. School Committee, PTA(parents, teachers association and Glocal Action Taiwan) will solve that monthly expense monthly.
