If 2021 is any indication, 2022 could be a banner year for the IPO market.

By the end of the third quarter last year, 1,635 companies had gone public around the world, a number that’s higher than the year-end totals of 2018, 2019, and 2020—and one that’s certain to top 2017 by December 31. Favorable market conditions have spurred many companies to make the jump.

Investment banks Goldman Sachs, JPMorgan, Deutsche Bank and Mizuho have initiated coverage on South Korean firm Coupang, which made its stock market debut in New York last month.

The e-commerce company surged 40% in its first day of trading after raising $4.55 billion at $35 per share. Coupang was the largest initial public offering in the U.S. so far this year and one of the top 25 biggest listings of all time stateside, by deal size.

Roblox was supposed to go public in 2020. Then the explosive trading debuts of Airbnb and Doordash forced it to rethink those plans.

If Roblox had proceeded with its original IPO plan, it could have left serious money on the table, just like Airbnb and Doordash did. And since the main point of an IPO is to raise capital -- not help institutional investors make a quick buck -- there might be a better way to do it.

Roblox stock is well-positioned to grow over the next few years.

Based in New York, the special purpose acquisition company (S**C) will focus on the acquisition or a target combination of tech businesses that are transforming large traditional industries in four industry verticals: consumer enablement, financial services, health and wellness, and industrial and transportation. In particular, it’s focused on cross-border businesses, said the firm in the filing.

Facebook’s Eduardo Saverin will serve as the special advisor at the S**C. He is the co-founder and co-managing general partner of B Capital Group.

South Korean e-commerce giant Coupang, backed by SoftBank Group, filed for an initial public offering on Friday, revealing rapid revenue growth and narrowing losses as it gears up for a stock market debut in the United States.

In its filing, Coupang said 2020 total revenue jumped 91% to $11.97 billion from a year earlier, and net loss narrowed to $474.9 million from $698.8 million in the same period.

Coupang is looking to cash in on investor appetite for high-growth tech stocks, at a time when the U.S. IPO market is at its strongest in more than two decades.

he path towards much higher gold prices is primarily a function of a declining U.S. dollar, but the Federal Reserve is stuck in a hard place right now, said Dan Oliver, founder of Myrmikan Capital. On one hand, low interest rates are accommodative for gold, but if the Fed keeps low for too long, inflation will run out of control. On the other hand, if the Fed raises rates in response to higher inflation, the financial system may just “blow” up, Oliver said.

GUANGZHOU, China — Ant Group’s initial public offering (IPO) could resume if the company resolves its issues, China’s central bank governor hinted on Tuesday.

The US stock market has been on a tear. The Dow, S&P 500 and Nasdaq ended 2020 near all-time highs — and the indexes have kept on climbing into the new year.

For investors who got in before the latest boom, that has resulted in some pretty healthy gains. The Dow (INDU) jumped about 1,784 points, or 6.1%, between January 15, 2020 and January 15, 2021. The S&P 500 (SPX) rose nearly 14.6%, and the Nasdaq (COMP) 40.4% during that time.
