Timeline of Clashes at the Thai-Cambodian Border
(According to Rear Admiral Surasansri Kongsiri, Spokesperson of the Thai Border Operations Center)
1. Before the clash
An explosion occurred at Chong An Ma, Nam Yuen District, Ubon Ratchathani Province.
Several Thai soldiers were seriously injured.
The area was under regular Thai patrols.
2. 07:35 AM
Cambodian forces deployed a drone to monitor Thai military positions near Ta Muen temple.
3. Shortly before 08:20 AM
Six heavily armed Cambodian soldiers, including one carrying an RPG, were seen advancing to the front line near the barbed-wire fence.
Thai forces attempted verbal negotiations, but received no response.
4. 08:20 AM – First Shot Fired
Cambodian troops opened fire first near the Thai “Moo Pha” base, around 200 meters east of Ta Muen temple.
Thai troops had no choice but to return fire.
5. Clashes spread to 6 more locations:
Ta Muen Thom temple
Ta Kwai temple
Chong Bok
Preah Vihear area
Huai Ta Maria / Phu Makheua
Chong An Ma / Chong Chom
6. Cambodian forces used heavy weapons
Including BM-21 rocket launchers and 122mm artillery.
Thai civilian homes were damaged.
3 people injured, including a 5-year-old boy.
1 person was killed in the Phanom D**g Rak border area of Surin province.
Public infrastructure, including a border development center in Kap Choeng District and even a Thai hospital, was also targeted.
7. Thai authorities raise border security to Level 4
All border checkpoints are now closed.
Previously, Thailand applied Level 2 measures (restricted access/time).
Thai gamblers traveling to Cambodian casinos are now unable to return via land routes and are advised to stop such travel.
8. Legal authority invoked
Actions taken under the Defense Ministry Civil Service Act B.E. 2551 (2008), Section 39.
Military command centers have been activated under the control of the Chief of Defense Forces.
9. Official warning to the public
Citizens and media are urged to follow official updates only.
The government and military are not ignoring the situation, and all efforts are being made to maintain security.
