💛 giving is one of the most common practices among Thai Buddhists. It’s a way to support the monks, who study and practice the Buddha’s teachings, by offering them food.

At the same time, we learn to give and to let go.

✨ don’t prepare their own meals!Monastics depend on the generosity of the lay community. As a result, any food is accepted by the monks....

🌻 Early morning in most towns and cities, monks in saffron robes can be seen collecting alms....

🚣 Alms-Giving: offering to the monks by the river...a traditional lifestyle of the villages living along the Bangjak canal which nowadays can still be found in Ban Bangjak, 🛕Tarawadee Temple, Tambol Bangjak, Nakhon Si Thammarat,

Colourful "Hae Nang Dan & The Giant Swing Festival" 💐 Nakhon Si Thammarat, Thailand. 🇹🇭 Celebrated annually on April 14. ✨

⏰ The timing of the event coincides with the Songkran New Year Water Festival. 🩵 Whilst Songkran is celebrated throughout Thailand, the Hae Nang Dan Festival is unique to Nakhon Si Thammarat.

🙏 Although Thailand is predominantly a Buddhist country...🛕 there are many influences from Hinduism and Brahmanism.

"Nang Dan" refers to the three hand-carved wooden tablets which depict important Brahman deities:

🌻 Phoebus and Phoebe (the sun and moon gods also known as Phra Suriya and Ratchaneekron)

🌳 Mother Earth (known in Thai as Phra Mae Thoranee)

💦 Mother River (Ganges goddess is the wife of Shiva)
