Matthew Gray Gubler is returning to television in a fresh detective drama that puts science, crime and unconventional thinking at the centre of the story.

In Einstein, Gubler plays Lewis “Lew” Einstein, the brilliant but directionless great-grandson of Albert Einstein. A tenured physics professor, Lew finds himself in trouble with the law and is ultimately pushed into using his extraordinary scientific mind to help police solve some of their most challenging cases.

His unlikely partner is Teri, played by Melissa Fumero, a disciplined detective whose practical approach clashes with Lew’s unconventional methods. Their contrasting personalities promise plenty of tension, humour and unexpected chemistry as they tackle complicated homicide investigations.

The series comes from Andy Breckman, the creator of Monk, adding another intriguing connection to the world of unconventional television detectives. Einstein is based on the German series of the same name and has been ordered by CBS for its 2026–27 midseason lineup.

For fans who remember Gubler as Dr. Spencer Reid in Criminal Minds, this new role offers a very different kind of genius — one who uses physics, logic and scientific thinking to crack murder cases.

The wait is over — the first look at Edward Bluemel as Hercule Poirot has finally been revealed, giving fans their first proper glimpse of the BBC’s upcoming six-part drama Hercule.

Bluemel, best known for My Lady Jane and Killing Eve, takes on a younger version of Agatha Christie’s legendary Belgian detective.

The series is currently filming in Liverpool and will explore Poirot during an earlier chapter of his life, offering a fresh perspective on the character audiences already know so well.

Rather than focusing on some of Poirot’s most famous later cases, Hercule will centre on three of Christie’s early stories, while also introducing important figures who will become part of Poirot’s world, including future friends, allies and a mysterious nemesis.

The impressive cast includes Tamsin Greig, James Nesbitt, James D’Arcy, Jack Gleeson, Henry Ashton, Calvin Demba, Guy Remmers, Rebecca Rittenhouse and Mawaan Rizwan.

Written by Benji Walters, the series is being produced by Mammoth Screen and Agatha Christie Limited for the BBC and BritBox. It is expected to premiere in 2027 on BBC One and BBC iPlayer in the UK, with BritBox bringing the series to North American audiences.

After iconic portrayals by actors including David Suchet and Kenneth Branagh, Edward Bluemel now has the difficult task of putting his own stamp on one of detective fiction’s most famous characters.

Great news for fans of Ludwig! The clever British mystery comedy is returning for a second season, with David Mitchell back as puzzle-loving recluse John “Ludwig” Taylor.

After accidentally becoming involved in police investigations when he was mistaken for his missing identical twin brother James, John is now officially working as a police consultant.

But his new position comes with one major problem: he is forbidden from using police resources to investigate his brother’s disappearance.

Of course, that isn’t going to stop him.

As John continues helping solve seemingly impossible crimes, the mystery surrounding James becomes even more important.

Anna Maxwell Martin also returns as Lucy, James’s determined wife, who remains committed to finding him and bringing him home.

Season 2 promises another mix of ingenious puzzles, unusual crimes, family drama and plenty of the dry humour that made the first season so popular.

The mysteries of Archangel Lane are far from over! Bookish has officially been renewed for a third season, even before Season 2 has premiered, giving fans another reason to celebrate.

Created by and starring Mark Gatiss, the period mystery follows eccentric antiquarian bookseller Gabriel Book, whose extraordinary knowledge of literature, history and human nature repeatedly helps the police unravel unusual crimes in post-war London.

Season 3 will feature six new episodes arriving in 2027, but fans won’t have to wait that long to see Gabriel back in action.

Before the new season arrives, Gatiss will return for a special two-part Christmas mystery, The Crown of Destiny, airing during Christmas 2026.

The renewal is a major vote of confidence from U&Alibi, highlighting the growing popularity of the atmospheric detective drama.

Mark Gatiss leads the cast as Gabriel Book, alongside Polly Walker, Connor Finch, Elliot Levey and Buket Kömür.

Season 2 begins Wednesday, August 26 at 8pm on U&Alibi in the UK, followed by the Christmas special before Season 3 arrives in 2027.

US viewers can currently watch Season 1 through PBS Masterpiece, while release dates for the later episodes and specials have yet to be confirmed.

The documentary promises to go beyond the public headlines, featuring rare archive footage and previously unseen personal material from Lineker’s life.

Caroline Quentin is heading to the seaside for Last Resort, a new six-part mystery drama that turns a relaxing holiday into an unexpected murder investigation.

Currently filming under its working title, the series follows a group of longtime friends who travel to a picturesque coastal village for a much-anticipated getaway.

But when tragedy strikes, their peaceful holiday quickly takes a sinister turn.

Quentin stars as Gail, a retired librarian who travels with her sister Joy, played by Niamh Cusack.

With Joy living with early-stage dementia, the trip is meant to be one of the special experiences on her bucket list.

But when police decide that a mysterious death was simply an accident, Gail and her friends refuse to accept the official explanation.

Alongside Tessa Peake-Jones as Dee and Jason Watkins as Charlie, they begin investigating for themselves.

The Voice UK could be heading for a major shake-up, with reports claiming that Cheryl and Aitch are set to join the coaching panel for the 2027 series.

According to reports, the pair could replace Danny Jones, Tom Fletcher and Kelly Rowland, bringing a very different dynamic to the iconic red chairs.

The hosting lineup may also be changing, with Alesha Dixon and Stacey Solomon reportedly being lined up to take over presenting duties following Emma Willis’ departure.

When Midsomer Murders first arrived in 1997, John Nettles introduced audiences to DCI Tom Barnaby, the detective at the centre of the long-running British crime drama.

Jane Wymark played his wife Joyce, while Laura Howard appeared as their daughter Cully.

The Barnaby family brought a quieter, more personal side to the series. Away from the investigations, viewers could see Tom dealing with ordinary family life, giving the drama a balance between its dark village murders and the everyday world of its central character.
