🚨 BREAKING: OFFICIALS CONFIRM DEATH OF FAMOUS HAWAIIAN MONK SEAL KAʻALE (RH32)
Hawaiʻi is mourning the heartbreaking loss of Kaʻale, also known as RH32, a beloved Hawaiian monk seal who was frequently seen along Oʻahu’s Waiʻanae Coast.
Officials confirmed that Kaʻale, a 10-year-old male monk seal, was found deceased off the coast of Nānākuli, Oʻahu on May 6. NOAA Fisheries and partner agencies responded quickly after receiving a public report, and a post-mortem examination is being conducted to determine the cause of death. At this time, the cause has not yet been confirmed.
Kaʻale was more than just a familiar face on the shoreline — he became a symbol of Hawaiʻi’s fragile marine life and the deep connection between the islands, the ocean, and the community that loved him. Over the years, he survived multiple challenges, including accidental hookings and entanglements, thanks to conservation teams and caring residents who reported him when he needed help.
His passing is a painful reminder of how vulnerable Hawaiian monk seals remain, and why public awareness, respectful distance, and quick reporting are so important.
Rest peacefully, Kaʻale. Your story touched many hearts. 🌊🦭💙
