Day 6
Midelt - Erg Chebbi 🇲🇦
…and the arrival to the golden dunes!

Leaving the Mid-Atlas behind, and catching the first distant glimpse of the High Atlas, this became the second day in a row that felt like pure rider’s paradise. Winding mountain roads, fast sweeping curves, perfect weather, wide open valleys dotted with palm groves and rocky plateaus… and once again, tarmac so smooth it puts many Alpine routes to shame.

Along the way towns where old kasbahs rise from the skyline. Some proudly restored, others slowly crumbling under the arid climate, half-claimed by time and nature.

Before reaching the High Atlas proper (I’ll get back to that later in the trip), I took a long detour toward the Sahara. The goal: arrive at Erg Chebbi and its majestic sea of dunes. A long one-hour camel ride later, crossing sandy ridges and quiet stretches of open desert... it was all worth it when I finally watched a breathtaking sunset in total silence... the desert's echoless silence.

And the best part? Tomorrow is a day off. No motorbikes, no camels, no clock... Just relaxing, wandering the dunes… and maybe finally doing some laundry. What better place to hang-dry your clothes? 😅

Day 5
Fez – Volubilis – Midelt 🇲🇦
“Paranoia…” - the beginning or end of it!

Fez, with its imposing Royal Palace and the labyrinthine medina where getting lost is almost a certainty, is a city that didn’t fail to impress. It’s said to be the largest car-free urban area in the world, and yet, stepping outside its walls, traffic chaos quickly takes over, with scooters, pedestrians and cars all sharing the same narrow streets. The real taste of Moroccan traffic, a test of nerves and reflexes!

From there, a stop at Volubilis, the ancient Roman settlement that once marked the empire’s southwestern frontier. Its remarkably preserved mosaics and stone arches still whisper stories of a civilization long gone, standing proud among the olive groves. Walking through its columns and arches feels like stepping into another era...

Then, the ride continued along the N13, climbing through the Middle Atlas Mountains — a stretch that could easily be mistaken for an alpine road. The scenery, the vegetation, and even the cold air bring back memories of the Alps, though one major difference stands out: the tarmac here is actually better than many roads in the Alps.

Tomorrow, the ride heads south, toward the desert.

Day 4
Chefchaouen – Fez 🇲🇦
"Brother, open your heart..."

Chefchaouen, the mesmerizing blue city of Morocco. A place where every corner feels like a dream painted in shades of blue. The reason behind its vivid tones is said to be both spiritual and practical — introduced by Jewish refugees in the 15th century, the color symbolizes the sky and heaven, serving as a reminder to live a spiritual life… and, some say, it helps keep mosquitoes away.

Leaving this blue maze behind, the road now heads to Fez, one of the oldest cities in Morocco and known as the country’s spiritual capital.

Day 3
Algeciras ⛴ Ceuta 🇪🇸 - Chefchaouen 🇲🇦.. and its famous "rampa do Gato"!

Crossing the Strait from the old continent to Ceuta — a surprisingly simple process. They load a multi-ton ferry packed with trucks, cars, and motorbikes in just 20 minutes, and one hour later, everything is unloaded with the same agility on the African shore. They repeat this routine several times a day... effortless precision.

Ceuta — the European fortress on African soil. Guarded by its ancient walls and surrounded by crystal waters, it feels like a city out of place. Although Spanish in language, administration, and modern architecture, traces of Arabic culture are everywhere.

The day ended in the mesmerizing blue city of Chefchaouen, arriving late into its narrow, painted streets. Tomorrow, it’s time to explore this unique place and discover the story behind its color.

Day 2
Seville 🇪🇸 – Gibraltar 🇬🇮 – Algeciras 🇪🇸
The “Calhau”!

Gibraltar — that small yet iconic slice of Britain carved into the southern tip of Spain. The moment you cross in, everything changes... the language, the license plates, even the atmosphere. Due to its strategic location as the entrance to the Mediterranean, has changed hands several times over its nearly 900 years of history. From the Moors to Spain and then to England, each left a mark on this unique territory, in its culture, architecture and even its food.

From here, the gateway to Africa begins. There are a few options to cross the legendary Strait of Gibraltar, but I chose the Algeciras–Ceuta route, from where I’ll enter Morocco heading south and begin my clockwise loop around the kingdom.

Tomorrow, Europe within the African continent…

Day 1
Porto - Elvas 🇵🇹 - Seville 🇪🇸
Because sometimes, to get from point A to point B, you need to stop at C… and D.

Crossing Portugal almost diagonally, I couldn’t resist a small detour to visit the beautiful city of Elvas, famous for its impressive star-shaped fortress, one of the best-preserved examples of military architecture in Europe.

From there, the road led me south to Seville, a city bursting with life, color, and history — the perfect place to end the first day of the journey.

Some rain along the way, but I finally left Benjamin behind… the storm, that is.

Tomorrow, The Rock! 🏍️🇬🇮

Embarking on the 6th stage of my project “Around the World on a Motorcycle, a stage at a time...” This time, the road leads south — to the golden realm of Morocco, a land where the Atlas Mountains meet the endless dunes of the Sahara and ancient medinas still whisper stories of sultans and caravans.

The journey starts by heading toward the legendary Rock of Gibraltar, but of course, not without crossing Portugal and Spain to get there. From there, I’ll cross the Strait to Africa, setting foot in Ceuta and onward to Chefchaouen, the mesmerizing Blue Pearl of Morocco.

The road continues to Fez, the spiritual heart of the kingdom, where time seems to stand still among the labyrinthine alleys and ancient souks. Through the cedar forests of Ifrane and the rocky highlands of Midelt, the route descends toward the dunes of Erg Chebbi, near Merzouga, where silence and sand meet beneath a billion stars.

From the golden desert, the path winds through the dramatic Todra and Dades Gorges, into Ouarzazate, the cinematic capital known as the “Gateway to the Sahara.” Riding past Aït Ben Haddou, a UNESCO gem, I’ll climb the High Atlas once again toward Marrakech, the red city of chaos and charm. The final stretch follows the Atlantic breeze through Casablanca and Rabat, returning north toward Tangier, where the African continent bids farewell.

Sixteen days, thousands of kilometers, and countless stories to tell.
And at the very end… a well-deserved reward.

Follow along for daily updates on this amazing adventure! 🌍

Just like I did in Aruba 🇦🇼 and Thailand 🇹🇭, whenever I visit a country for any other reason and have the chance to get my hands on a motorcycle — even if it’s just a small moped 🛵 (well, it has two wheels, right? 😅) — it immediately becomes an opportunity to add a pinpoint on my Around the World journey. Tunisia 🇹🇳 was no exception. 😊

I rode around Djerba Island, exploring its main attractions: the beautiful Ghriba Synagogue, one of the oldest in Africa; Houmt Souk’s lively market; the fascinating traditional pottery village of Guellala; and Erriadh village, famous for its vibrant street art as part of the Djerbahood project.

On a positive note, another story that renews my faith in human kindness... At some point, due to a faulty gas gauge, I ran out of fuel in a remote village, with the nearest gas station several kilometers away. I flagged down a father-and-son passing by on their motorcycle, and without hesitation, they offered to fetch me a couple of liters of gas, expecting nothing in return. Once again, a big gesture from people who likely have so little, yet give generously out of the goodwill of helping a stranger.

One more line drawn on the map, and a couple more stories to share “around the table".

Day 16 - ...to (finally) close this chapter!
Calliano - Lake Garda - Lake Como - Gallarate, Italy 🇮🇹

And to wrap up these amazing 15 days on the road, I spent my last day exploring Italy's stunning lake district. While the first day was marked by the scenic beauty of Lake Maggiore, the final day was defined by the enchanting views of Lake Garda and Lake Como.

I ventured along the famous Strada della Forra, a winding road with dramatic cliffs and breathtaking views that’s often described as one of the most beautiful roads in the world. In the charming town of Bellagio, known as the "Pearl of Lake Como," I enjoyed the relaxing atmosphere, cobbled streets, and delightful cafes. The architecture and gardens in this region are captivating, with elegant villas dotting the shores and quaint towns inviting exploration.

This 5052 kilometers journey across 11 countries, with temperatures ranging from -5ºC to the low 30's, was a transformative experience. I visited iconic places, from historical sites to exhilarating roads like the Transfăgărășan and Transalpina. But beyond the sights, it was the people, especially in countries like Romania or Ukraine, that left the most lasting impression—kindness and hospitality that exceeded all expectations.

Ultimately, this trip was a reminder that even when our expectations are low or filled with concern, when the road ahead seems uncertain, there’s always something remarkable waiting to surprise us — whether it's a scenic view, a kind gesture, or a deeper connection to the world. I leave this trip with a renewed sense of hope and can’t wait for the next motorcycle adventure, around the World...

Day 11 - Backlog Post
Deva, Romania 🇷🇴 - Budapest, Hungary 🇭🇺

Leaving the (former) Roman Dacia region…

I didn’t say much about Romania when I first entered the country, but after spending three days crossing it mainly on the remote areas, it would be unfair not to write a few words about this amazing nation. Having already visited a “few dozen” countries around the world, there are only a handful that truly surprised me in a positive way. Romania is now one of them.

When I entered the country, my expectations were, let’s say, at least apprehensive and my concerns were significant. However, during the incredible days I spent in Romania, I encountered only kind, warm, helpful, humble, and amazing people. If my faith in humanity was at a low point, visiting Romania has given me a renewed sense of hope. These may sound like strong words, but they are not exaggerated.

Well, the purpose of these trips is to be challenged in several ways, including our assumptions and prove us wrong when needed.

Thank you Romania.

Day 6 - Backlog Post
Wadowice, Poland 🇵🇱 - Kaluža, Slovakia 🇸🇰

I didn't give much attention to day 6 because it was basically a riding day. I was leaving Poland, which I’ve already shared about, and entering Slovakia—a country I planned to return to later, which I actually did. But I don’t want to leave a gap in my trip diary, so here's the late post to keep the continuity of my journey.

Day 15
Söll - Top Mountain Crosspoint, Austria 🇦🇹 - Calliano, Italy 🇮🇹

This was the longest journey so far, with the high point being the visit to Top Mountain Crosspoint, which houses a motorcycle museum that was literally rebuilt from the ashes. It’s a must-see for every motorcycle enthusiast! As the name suggests, it's Europe's highest motorbike museum, which meant returning to snowy landscapes and colder weather. Ski slopes were open until just last week.

Unfortunately, entering Italy through the Timmelsjoch High Alpine Road wasn't possible—it hadn't opened to traffic yet. This meant I had to ride back along part of the route to reach the Alto Adige region, in Italy. The silver lining was that, at the end of the long ride, I was rewarded with breathtaking scenery as the sun set over the mountains. It was a stunning end to a challenging yet rewarding day on the road.
