COMD 331 - NEWS REPORTING AND WRITING:

OBJECTIVES:
This course’s objective is to provide you knowledge in news reporting and writing. As well as showing you how important it is to know what’s going on nationally and internationally, you will understand what is newsworthy. Students will be given behind-the-scene elements of news reporting and writing during the lectures. You will also be given tips to help future reporters to gather, produce and broadcast their own stories. So if you participate and apply the techniques you’ll learn during this class, you will have the tools to be a successful reporter. When you finish the semester, you will have the confidence to write your stories as clearly as experienced journalists in prominent TV channels and newspapers. You will meet guest speakers and will have news room trip in order to understand the creation of a news story. Also you will have in-class reviews from the newspapers published on that day or news videos to show how journalists organize their material in a clear and organized manner. QUIZZES AND Q&A:
You will be quizzed 3 times during the semester on how much you learn in the given class. Every week we will have Q&A sessions for the last 15 min of lecture. You can ask wide range of questions not only from the lectures but also about working in the field and journalism. So you will not only have academic information but also practical experience. REQUIRED READING:
Read the newspapers and watch the daily news as much as possible. The goals of these readings and viewings are to catch national and international news agenda. Also it will help you to examine different writing and reporting styles. GRADING:
