Niger’s President, General Abdourahamane Tiani, has arrived in Türkiye for an official working visit following an invitation from President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

According to official statements, talks in Ankara are expected to focus on strengthening bilateral relations and expanding cooperation across key sectors including defense, economy, agriculture, trade, infrastructure, energy, health, and mining.

President Tiani is accompanied by a high-level delegation of ministers, signaling Niger’s intention to deepen practical cooperation with Türkiye in areas linked to economic growth, industrial development, and regional security.

Ethiopia held its general elections on June 1, 2026, with long queues reported at polling stations and security disruptions affecting parts of Oromia and Amhara regions. Voting did not take place in the Tigray region, while several polling stations across the country were forced to close due to insecurity.

This is Ethiopia’s seventh election since the end of military rule in 1991. Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, who came to power in 2018 after widespread protests and won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2019, is currently leading the vote and expected to win as Ethiopians await the official results.
