Kirk Maxson is one of the artists who has transformed sand from a building material into an artistic medium. The sand sculptures he creates by dripping sand take on unique forms reminiscent of Gothic architecture and natural rock formations.

Snøhetta ve USM’den fiziksel deneyimi merkeze alan enstalasyon.

Milano Design Week 2026’nın öne çıkan işlerinden biri olan “Renaissance of the Real”, Snøhetta ve USM Modular Furniture iş birliğiyle ziyaretçilerle buluştu.

Fondazione Luigi Rovati’de sergilenen çok duyulu enstalasyon; ışık, ses ve tekstil yüzeyleriyle dijital dünyanın hızına karşı fiziksel deneyimi yeniden merkeze alıyor.

“Presence cannot be downloaded” mesajıyla dikkat çeken proje, modüler metal sistemleri organik ve yumuşak formlarla bir araya getiriyor.

“Renaissance of the Real,” one of the standout works of Milan Design Week 2026, was presented to visitors through a collaboration between Snøhetta and USM Modular Furniture.

On display at the Fondazione Luigi Rovati, this multisensory installation uses light, sound, and textile surfaces to re-center the physical experience in contrast to the fast pace of the digital world.

With the message “Presence cannot be downloaded,” the project brings together modular metal systems with organic and soft forms.

Feixue Pavilion, armut çiçeği formundan esinlenen beş örtüşen beton levhadan oluşuyor.

Feixue Pavilion, armut çiçeğinin beş taç yaprağından ilham alan bir kurgu doğrultusunda, farklı kotlarda konumlanan bağımsız beton döşemelerin üst üste yerleşmesiyle şekilleniyor. Katmanlar arasında bırakılan boşluklar gün ışığının iç mekânlara süzülmesini sağlarken, yapının kütlesel etkisini de azaltıyor. Dağ yamacına yerleşen yapı, mevcut topoğrafya ve bitki örtüsüne uyumlu bir yerleşim kurgusu oluşturuyor.

Çatı tasarımı, bölgedeki su depolamalı düz dam geleneğini referans alıyor; yüzeyde oluşturulan sığ su katmanı ise gökyüzünü ve çevredeki peyzajı yansıtıyor. Beton duvarlar sertleşme sonrasında elle yontularak işleniyor ve böylece kaya yüzeylerini çağrıştıran dokulu bir karakter kazanıyor.

The Feixue Pavilion consists of five overlapping concrete slabs inspired by the form of a pear petals.

The Feixue Pavilion takes shape through the layering of independent concrete slabs positioned at different levels, following a design inspired by the five petals of a pear blossom. The voids left between the layers allow natural light to filter into the interior spaces while also reducing the building’s massing effect. The building, set on a mountain slope, establishes a settlement strategy that responds to the existing topography and vegetation.

The roof design references the region’s traditional flat roofs used for water storage; a shallow layer of water on the surface reflects the sky and the surrounding landscape. After curing, the concrete walls are hand-carved, giving them a textured character that evokes natural rock surfaces.

Freudenberg, Almanya’nın Kuzey Ren-Vestfalya eyaletinde yer alan ve tarihî dokusunu büyük ölçüde koruyan yerleşimlerden biri olarak öne çıkıyor. Kentin en bilinen bölgesi olan “Alter Flecken”, siyah renkli ahşap karkas sistemler ve beyaz dolgulu cephelerden oluşan geleneksel yarı ahşap yapı düzeniyle tanımlanıyor.

Özellikle 17. yüzyılda yaşanan büyük yangının ardından yeniden inşa edilen yapı stoğu, ortak çatı eğimleri, ritmik cephe düzeni ve bütüncül sokak siluetiyle dikkat çekiyor. Doğal topoğrafya ile birlikte gelişen yerleşim dokusu, kamusal alanlar ve konut ölçeği arasında dengeli bir ilişki kuruyor.

Freudenberg stands out as one of the settlements in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia that has largely preserved its historic character. The city’s most famous district, “Alter Flecken,” is characterized by its traditional half-timbered architecture, featuring black wooden frameworks and white-stuccoed facades.

The building stock, rebuilt following a major fire in the 17th century, draws attention with its uniform roof pitches, rhythmic facade patterns, and cohesive street silhouette. The settlement’s fabric, which has evolved in harmony with the natural topography, establishes a balanced relationship between public spaces and residential scale.

“Su masası” oluşturmak için eritilen cam şeritleri, yüksek ısıyla birlikte yerçekimine teslim oluyor ve her akışta farklı bir form alıyor. Camın gerilme, kaynaşma ve kırılma biçimi nedeniyle her eser; kendine özgü dokular, küçük izler ve doğal farklılıklar taşıyor. Tam da bu yüzden hiçbir parça birbirinin aynısı olmuyor.

Kanadalı cam sanatçısı David Yeshia’nın Artglas Studios çatısı altında ürettiği çalışmalar, geleneksel fırınlanmış cam tekniklerini deneysel ve heykelsi bir yaklaşımla yeniden yorumluyor. Ezilmiş, kırılmış ve yeniden eritilmiş cam katmanları; ışığı, kusurluluğu ve dönüşümü görünür kılan özgün yüzeylere dönüşüyor.

Sanatçının tamamen sezgi ve deney yoluyla geliştirdiği teknikler, cama aynı anda hem kırılgan hem de kalıcı bir karakter kazandırıyor.

To create a “water table,” molten glass strands surrender to gravity under high heat, taking on a different form with each flow. Due to the way the glass stretches, fuses, and fractures, each piece features unique textures, subtle marks, and natural variations. This is precisely why no two pieces are exactly alike.

The works created by Canadian glass artist David Yeshia under the Artglas Studios banner reinterpret traditional fired glass techniques with an experimental and sculptural approach. Layers of crushed, broken, and remelted glass transform into unique surfaces that reveal light, imperfection, and transformation.

The techniques the artist has developed entirely through intuition and experimentation imbue the glass with a character that is both fragile and enduring at the same time.

Meksikalı mimarlık ofisi LANZA atelier, 2026 Serpentine Pavilion için geliştirdiği “a serpentine” adlı projenin yeni detaylarını paylaştı.

Londra’daki Kensington Gardens içinde yer alan Serpentine South önüne kurulacak pavyon, İngiliz kırsalındaki kıvrımlı bahçe duvarlarından ilham alıyor. Geçirgen tuğla strüktürü ve organik formuyla tasarlanan yapı; ışık, hava ve manzarayı içeri taşıyan kamusal bir buluşma alanı oluşturuyor.

2026 Serpentine Pavilion, 6 Haziran 2026’da halka açılacak ve Ekim 2026’ya kadar ziyaret edilebilecek. Yapı boyunca performanslar, söyleşiler, film gösterimleri ve topluluk etkinlikleri düzenlenecek.

LANZA atelier ayrıca Serpentine Pavilion programına seçilen ikinci Meksikalı mimarlık ofisi oluyor.

The Mexican architecture firm LANZA atelier has shared new details about its project titled “a serpentine,” developed for the 2026 Serpentine Pavilion.

The pavilion, to be erected in front of the Serpentine South in London’s Kensington Gardens, draws inspiration from the winding garden walls of the English countryside. Designed with a permeable brick structure and organic forms, the building creates a public gathering space that brings light, air, and views inside.

The 2026 Serpentine Pavilion will open to the public on June 6, 2026, and remain open until October 2026. Performances, talks, film screenings, and community events will be held throughout the structure.

LANZA atelier also becomes the second Mexican architecture firm selected for the Serpentine Pavilion program.

Gökyüzüne açılan boşluk: Shining Hat Expo Hall

Toyo Ito imzalı Shining Hat Expo Hall, Expo 2025 Osaka kapsamında gökyüzüne açılan dev bir boşluk fikri üzerinden kurgulanıyor. Yaklaşık 2 bin kişilik ana oditoryum, altın renkli dairesel çatısı ve ışığı yansıtan yüzeyiyle, mimariyi optik bir deneyime dönüştüren kamusal bir sahne oluşturuyor.

Hafif çelik strüktür sayesinde geniş açıklıklar kesintisiz biçimde geçilirken, beyaz tekstil yüzeylerle çevrelenen iç mekân; ışık, yansıma ve hacim ilişkisini öne çıkaran akışkan bir atmosfer sunuyor. Yapının merkezindeki geniş oculus açıklığı ise gün ışığını doğrudan iç mekâna taşıyarak gökyüzü ile mimari arasında sürekli değişen bir ilişki tanımlıyor.

A space opening up to the sky: Shining Hat Expo Hall

Designed by Toyo Ito, the Shining Hat Expo Hall is conceived around the idea of a massive void opening up to the sky as part of Expo 2025 Osaka. The main auditorium, which seats approximately 2,000 people, features a golden circular roof and light-reflecting surfaces, creating a public stage that transforms architecture into an optical experience.

Thanks to a lightweight steel structure, wide spans are spanned seamlessly, while the interior—enclosed by white textile surfaces—offers a fluid atmosphere that highlights the interplay of light, reflection, and volume. The large oculus opening at the building’s center brings natural light directly into the interior, defining a constantly evolving relationship between the sky and the architecture.

Ağaç tepelerinin birbirine temas etmeden aralarında damar benzeri boşluklar oluşturması, bilimsel olarak “crown shyness”, Türkçede ise “taç çekingenliği” olarak tanımlanıyor. Özellikle aynı tür ağaçların yoğun olduğu ormanlarda görülen bu oluşum, ağaç taçlarının birbirine değmeden büyümesiyle ortaya çıkıyor. Araştırmalar, bu durumun dalların rüzgârla temas etmesi, ışık ve büyüme yönelimleriyle ilişkili olduğunu ortaya koyuyor.

Ortaya çıkan organik boşluk geometrisi aynı zamanda mimarlık ve tasarım disiplinlerinde de referans alınan doğal örüntüler arasında yer alıyor. Özellikle parametrik tasarım ve biyomimetik yaklaşımlar, doğadaki bu geçirgenlik ve ritim ilişkisini strüktür, cephe ve mekânsal organizasyon üretimlerinde incelemeyi sürdürüyor.

The phenomenon where tree crowns form vein-like gaps between them without touching is scientifically defined as “crown shyness.” This phenomenon, observed particularly in forests with a high density of trees of the same species, arises as the tree crowns grow without touching one another. Research indicates that this phenomenon is related to the interaction of branches with wind, as well as light and growth orientation.

The resulting organic void geometry is also among the natural patterns referenced in the fields of architecture and design. In particular, parametric design and biomimetic approaches continue to explore this relationship between permeability and rhythm in nature within the production of structures, facades, and spatial organization.
