It has an amazing historical and cultural heritage. Impressive are the churches, houses and monasteries carved in the soft rocks. The fairy chimneys are a creation of nature, formed more than 13 million years ago. These are rock formations for which there are legends of being ghostly. The underground cities located in Cappadocia have up to 8 floors underground, numerous caves and tunnels - all made by ancient people.

The Grand Bazaar (Turkish: Kapalıçarşı, meaning ‘Covered Market’) in Istanbul is one of the largest and oldest covered markets in the world, with 61 covered streets and over 4,000 shops. The construction of the future Grand Bazaar's core started during the winter of 1455/56, shortly after the Ottoman conquest of Constantinople and was part of a broader initiative to stimulate economic prosperity in Istanbul.
Today the Grand Bazaar is a thriving complex, employing 26,000 people visited by between 250,000 and 400,000 visitors daily, and one of the major landmarks of Istanbul.

In the 12th and 13th centuries, Konya prospered as a capital city under the rule of the Seljuk Dynasty.
