For our final installment, Coromoto Hernandez talks candidly about navigating daily life in Venezuela right now, keeping local culture going, and how her approach behind the decks shifts when playing for different audiences.

Rebuilding across Venezuela will take time. As we close out this series, we encourage our global community to support on-the-ground relief efforts by donating to Cáritas Venezuela or World Central Kitchen .

When we ask our guests about the dishes that ground them, the stories always return to memory, family, and home. For Coromoto Hernandez , that dish is Cafunga.

Originating along the coast of Barlovento, Cafunga is a traditional Afro-Venezuelan recipe born from local ingenuity. Enslaved workers on cocoa estates crafted it using the natural ingredients at hand: turning ripe bananas (cambur), grated coconut, wheat flour, papelón (unrefined cane sugar), and a hint of sweet anise into a dense, sweet-and-savory roll wrapped in roasted banana leaves and cooked over a budare (a traditional circular flat griddle used in Venezuelan cooking). Often served alongside salty white cheese and hot coffee, it is a meal rooted in comfort and connection.

In our full sit-down, Coromoto talks about how dishes like Cafunga share the exact same energy as the records she spins: they carry memory, nourish people, and hold a community’s story intact across generations.

As rebuilding across Venezuela continues, keeping these stories and traditions shared remains vital as communities lean on one another. To support immediate on-the-ground relief efforts, please consider donating to Caritas Venezuela or World Central Kitchen. 🇻🇪🫶🏻

Venezuela is facing an unbearable moment. As search efforts continue and communities across the country work to rebuild following the June 24th, 2026, earthquake, survival relies on the tangible ways people hold each other up: sharing a hot meal, looking out for each other, and leaning into the culture that keeps a nation connected.

Prior to the disaster, The DJ Cookbook sat down with DJ and producer Coromoto Hernandez . Known for centering her sets around salsa, she treats the genre as the true emotional backbone of Venezuela. In our conversation, she spoke about music as a force for community, creating female and queer-inclusive dance floors with her crew Está Jevi , and running classemedia_ca at the crossroads of local sound, art, and fashion. Whether behind the decks or behind the scenes, her focus remains deeply rooted in real street culture and genuine human connection.

In a moment where so much has been lost, we share this conversation to honor that unbroken spirit, the culture of mutual care, and the shared music and food that keep people grounded. Rebuilding will take time, and we cannot let the conversation around Venezuela fade away.

Please consider supporting immediate relief efforts on the ground by donating to Cáritas Venezuela or World Central Kitchen .
Sending all our love, strength and support to everyone in Venezuela. 🇻🇪🫂

At the heart of everything Matias Aguayo does is an unwavering love for the dance floor, that sacred, ritualistic space where we find release, peace, and each other.

With his new album, Anenoa, and a brand-new live show designed to completely dissolve the line between the stage and the crowd, he is celebrating the raw, beautiful vulnerability of human connection. For Matías, the dance floor is an active, living ceremony that wakes up parts of the body, mind, and soul you didn’t even know existed.

In this final part of our feature, we dive into his passion for direct, participative energy, the thrill of community collaboration, and why he has built his musical world to protect the playful, curious, and joyous child within.

If you are ready to remember what dancing together is truly about, this is your invitation. Link in bio to read the final chapter and stream the album. 🌋

🥁: Matías Aguayo - The Beat

20/07/2026

With Chilean, Italian, and Peruvian roots and influences, Matías Aguayo calls his background a “wonderful culinary mess”. To him, food is an emotional adventure, and a plate is a map of life.

Take Peruvian ceviche. To Matías, it is a high-wire act of real-time chemistry relying entirely on what he calls the “holy trinity” of flavor: coriander, chili, and lime. Sharp, acidic, and incredibly precise.

Matías is a purist about the structural beauty of rice, a devotee of the rich, ancestral depth of Argentinean blood sausage, and considers Portuguese cuisine the ultimate litmus test for real food lovers. He even gives a special shout-out to the food of Reunion Island, calling it “food that makes you dance and love”.

It’s a deeply romantic approach to eating. As Matías puts it: “I don’t understand why in English there is no expression for ‘buen provecho’ or ‘bon appétit’ - why is that so? Who wants to love like that?”

Hit the link in our bio to step into his kitchen, find out why the sound of sizzling onions is the ultimate romantic foreplay, and learn why a slow-cooked broth is essential for your soul.

There is a very specific type of magic that happens when an artist refuses to play by the rules of a highly sterile, predictable world. Matias Aguayo has spent his entire career being that beautiful disruptor.

He’s always chased one thing: the pure, unfiltered connection of people dancing together in a room. No algorithms, no clinical formulas. Just raw, human energy.

He joined us fresh off the release of his new album, Anenoa. It is a deep, sensual, and deeply comforting conversation about how the sensory worlds of food and music are actually vibrating on the exact same wavelength. 🎶 🍽️

Released on the Future Sound Of Nature label (which LOLA VILLA co-founded alongside Eli aka DJ E-Cology of Soul Clap), Amazonía is a sacred ofrenda sonora (sound offering).

It forms a brilliant bridge between deep house textures and the Manguaré drums of the Bora people of Peru and Colombia, who are credited as full artistic collaborators and equity owners of the music. By scattering the field recordings of endangered birds across the dance floor, Lola invites us to inhabit the “tender intervals” where rhythm breathes and the forest speaks. 🎧🌳🦜

And the timing couldn’t be more perfect. This very weekend (June 19–21, 2026), the second edition of the Future Sound of Nature festival comes alive in its brand-new home in Red Hook, New York! Prepare for a full weekend of dancing, local connection, and active ecological respect in the Hudson Valley. 🌿🪩

Let’s dance in a way that gives back more than it takes. Link in bio for the final hours to read the interview and grab your festival pass! ✨💃🏻🕺🏻

Whether you call them patacones or tostones, these twice-fried, perfectly smashed green plantains are a foundational rhythm across Latin America and the Caribbean. 🌱

Nutritionally, these plantains are an absolute powerhouse. Unlike sweet bananas, green plantains act more like a starchy root vegetable, packed with complex carbohydrates and dietary fiber that provide sustained, long-lasting energy without the crash. They are also rich in essential nutrients: vitamin C to back your immune system, vitamin B6 for brain function, and a heavy dose of potassium to keep your muscles and heart thriving. For a touring artist navigating late-night sets and global travel, it’s the ultimate fuel to stay grounded and fully in the body. 💪🏼

In our latest feature, LOLA VILLA takes us back to her childhood in Bogotá, where they were a grounding, daily staple. Her upbringing was shaped by the profound social consciousness of Colombian food culture: vividly captured by local icons like Crepes & Waffles, the legendary institution that built its culinary empire on a mission of heart-centred service, famously empowering and employing thousands of single mothers as heads of households. That same spirit of community equity and deep social responsibility runs right through Lola’s own art today.

"There’s real beauty in our ingredients,”Lola reminds us, proving that a single, golden plátano (plantain) holds an entire story of resilience and community within its crisp edges.

Head over to the link in our bio to discover how these ancestral flavors and cultural values shape her warm house percussion and shimmering 80s synths. 🍌✨

🎛️ Lola Villa - Homecoming

03/06/2026

Even on a casual hump day, this track makes you want to drop everything and party like it is 1999. So, we are saying ha det bra to Oslo tastemakers with a first listen to “1999,” a track from their upcoming album, Tropenatt, arriving June 26th on . 👋🏻🇳🇴

This project marks the final chapter of the duo’s album trilogy, carrying the quiet gravity of a true goodbye. The music captures the essence of a rare northern summer night, those sleepless hours where the twilight lingers, time completely stretches, and the boundaries between the afternoon and the next morning dissolve. It is the exact spirit found in their Afternooners parties, where day seamlessly transitions into night, creating a space where the clock no longer matters. 🪩💫

Sonically, it is a brilliant blend of old school breaks and deep house that mirrors the exact culinary ethos Christian shared with us this week. Just like the traditional Fårikål we discussed, where simple ingredients simmer over hours until they transform into something deeply rich, their production builds beauty from the ground up by focusing on patience and raw texture.

🎛️Of Norway - 1999

01/06/2026

There is a unique kind of magic that happens when you strip away the noise and let simple ingredients do the heavy lifting. In music, it’s that perfect, stripped-back arrangement; in the kitchen, it’s Norway’s national dish, Fårikål. 🇳🇴

This national dish sounds incredibly minimalist, consisting of either lamb or mutton meat, cabbage, water, and whole peppercorns. But as Christian Steenstrup, one half of the DJ duo , explains in his interview with The DJ Cookbook, "It’s so basic, yet after 6-7 hours of simmering it turns out rich and delicious." It perfectly backs up his belief that "there is beauty in the simplicity" of their regional kitchen.🐑

We talked about how these culinary traditions and sensory rituals interlace with a two-decade journey in electronic music. The conversation flows from a childhood home where a radio played in every single room to his favorite acoustic texture in the kitchen: the perfect, satisfying sizzle of a hot cast-iron pan. 🍳
