Türkiye attended the inauguration ceremony of Northeastern State President Abdikadir Ahmed Aw-Ali in Las Anod, a city in northern Somalia.
Türkiye’s Ambassador to Mogadishu, Alper Aktaş, was also present at the ceremony on Friday. During the event, Türkiye reiterated its continued support for Somalia’s unity, territorial integrity, and development.
As part of the visit, Türkiye expressed appreciation to local authorities for their hospitality and congratulated them on the successful organisation of the ceremony.
Abdikadir Ahmed Aw-Ali, widely known as Firdhiye, was elected president of Northeastern State in August 2025, one month after the region was formally recognised as a Federal Member State.
Las Anod has historically rejected the claims of Somaliland's independence, and is known for supporting a united Somali state. The city’s federal recognition is seen as a significant step toward strengthening national unity and state-building in Somalia.
