Lenn Almadin Thornhill has spent a career making complicated things land with people who have ninety seconds and no background in the subject.

So when she says that using plain language is not the same as dumbing down your message, she is speaking from a newsroom where getting that wrong means the audience simply leaves.

Her point in this clip is one a lot of professionals need to hear. Complexity in your language is often protecting you rather than serving them. The clearest person in the room is usually the one who understands the material best.
