Prime Minister Kamla Persad Bissessar is today quoted as saying, she asked the US authorities to install the radar, because it will make Trinidad and Tobago safer.

Published in today’s Express Newspaper, she too is insisting the people of Tobago have nothing to fear.

Mrs. Persad Bissessar reportedly says, Tobago’s air and sea territory are the most secure, they have ever been.

She maintains, the safety of the people of this country remains her responsibility.

Again she states, Trinidad and Tobago is not a United States base for any attacks on Venezuela.

Tobagonians are being told the radar system now installed on the island is to protect them, and has nothing to do with ongoing tensions between Venezuela and the United States.

The radar system has been installed at the eastern end of the, A.N.R. Robinson International Airport.

Chief Secretary Farley Augustine has explained the purpose of the aid provided by, American military authorities last week.

Mr. Augustine initially said, he was not consulted on the issue and he called for information.

Mr. Augustine met with members of the, National Security Council over the weekend.

Among them Defense Minister Wayne Sturge.

He asserted that the United States has sufficient assets of its own, and does not need this country’s resources should it decide to strike Venezuela.

The city of Port of Spain will from today see the resumption of, wrecking operations.

In a release last week, the Port of Spain City Corporation announced that from today, unauthorized or improperly parked vehicles across the downtown business district would be removed as part of renewed efforts, to reduce congestion and maintain order in the capital.

So far there is support coming from taxi drivers along several routes.They have said, illegal parking disrupts their operations and obstructs designated taxi stands.

Taxi drivers are reported, as saying the resumption of wrecking will help restore order.Some taxi operators said, wrecking should begin in areas where illegal parking is most disruptive.

In its release the Port of Spain city corporation, said the renewed enforcement measures are intended to address congestion and illegal parking, in the busy commercial zone.

It said, vehicles removed during the operations would be taken to the south quay car park facility for storage.

Owners will be required to pay, all applicable towing and storage fees before retrieval.

The corporation urged motorists to ensure they comply with, existing regulations.

The order authorizing the resumption of wrecking was issued by the, Chief Executive Officer of the Port of Spain Corporation.

The much anticipated ten percent salary increase offer has been made, to the public services association.

The offer came yesterday, from the acting Chief Personnel Officer Wendy Barton.

After several hours of talks CPO Dr. Daryl Dindial addressed the media at his office in Port-of-Spain.

PSA President Felisha Thomas said, the offer is a promise made and kept by the government.

The ten per cent offer covers two negotiating periods: 2014 to 2016 and 2017 to 2019.

Ms. Thomas is confident; the money will be paid by Christmas.

Finance Minister Davendranath Tancoo, when asked outside parliament yesterday about the PSA negotiations, said the ten per cent promise would be kept.

He said, the government has the funds to keep its obligations and to keep the commitments, which it has made to the PSA during the campaign.

The prime minister is now confirming a radar is being installed at the Arthur NR Robinson International Airport in Tobago.

Kamla Persad Bissessar said, yesterday the Americans are assisting with the installation.

On Wednesday this week the prime minister said, the presence of the US military in Tobago is to provide help at the airport.

Two women are now in police custody after they were allegedly found in possession of co***ne at, the Arthur NR Robinson International Airport.

The co***ne, packaged in 9boxes of cake mix was found on Tuesday.

The arrests and discovery were made by officers of the Special Investigations Unit, while conducting routine duties at the airport, paying special attention to passengers scheduled to board a flight destined for Frankfurt, Germany.

Police are said to have stopped and interviewed a 27-year-old woman from Arima, and conducted a search of her luggage, where, hidden among items of clothing were six boxes of cake mix.

Upon further examination, the white powdery substance inside the boxes was found to be co***ne.

The officers say another passenger, a 20-year-old woman from Arima bypass, Arima, was also interviewed.

A search of her luggage revealed five similarly packaged boxes, which likewise contained co***ne.

Police reported the seized packages weighed 11.757 kg, with an estimated street value of TT$16,388,564.00 and that investigations are continuing.

Meanwhile, police have said a male suspect is assisting the investigations in Trinidad after they seized ma*****na, with a street value of TT$4.4 million on Wednesday.

According to the cops they had intercepted a vehicle traveling westbound along the, Churchill Roosevelt Highway on the outskirts of the capital, Port of Spain, where a search resulted in the discovery of 40 packages of compressed Colombian “creepy” ma*****na, weighing 20.74 kilogrammes.
