Woman Charged with Child Cruelty

A 23-year-old Venezuelan national residing in South Oropouche has been charged with one count of Cruelty to a Child and one count of Wasteful Employment.

The charges stem from an incident which occurred on August 20th, 2026, along the Old Southern Main Road, St. Mary’s, South Oropouche.

On that date, a woman went to the South Oropouche Police Station with a baby and reported that she had found the child abandoned along the roadway.

Based on enquiries conducted, intelligence gathered and information received, a suspect was detained on September 3rd, 2026, during an anti-crime operation relative to the report.

On September 6th, 2026, W/Sgt Ferguson of the Special Victims Department, Region III, received advice from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions and formally charged Deyanira de los Angeles Gomez with one count of Cruelty to a Child and one count of Wasteful Employment.

Gomez is expected to appear before a Master of the Court at Siparia on September 7th, 2026.

The operation was coordinated by Supt Reyes and ASP Jones, and supervised by A/Insp. Ishmael and W/Sgt Ferguson. It included members of the Special Victims Department, Region III.

A security officer is today saying thanks to Pc Darion Thomas for his quick response in a life saving ordeal. The officer employed with UPSL security services report for duty at the Tamana E-Tech pack, Cumuto. At around 6:55 am she complained of feeling unwell and was reported gasping for breath and shaking uncontrollably with her eyes rolling back, clutching her chest and complaining of serious pain and tightening.

Members of staff then immediately contacted the Ambulance services however after waiting for a period of about 25 minutes with no response or arrival from the emergency service, they staff decided to place the officer in a mobile response unit security van in which they then made their way to the Valencia health center however, to their dismay, there were no doctors, nurses or Ambulance at the health center. The personnels in the security mobile unit then decided to proceed to the Sangre Grande General Hospital. Upon arrival at the Valencia roundabout, the officers spotted Pc Darion Thomas approaching the said roundabout and called out to him. When officer Thomas approached the vehicle, he was briefed about the situation and immediately got into action and escorted the mobile unit through heavy traffic safely to the Sangre Grande General hospital where the professional staff at the hospital immediately took the officer into the emergency room where she's now resting comfortably.

One Man Arrested, Fi***rm and Ammo Seized
Police have arrested one man and seized a fi***rm, a magazine and several rounds of am******on during intelligence-led exercises conducted in the Central, Southern and Eastern Divisions over the past 24 hours.

Between midnight and 4am on 5th September, 2026, officers of the Southern Division Task Force conducted an Operation RESOLUTE Shield exercise in the Southern and Central Divisions.

Based on surveillance and intelligence, the officers proceeded to an apartment located along the Southern Main Road, California, where they conducted a search.

A 34-year-old man was subsequently arrested for possession of six rounds of 9mm am******on and a Smith & Wesson magazine capable of holding 17 rounds.

The operation was coordinated by Snr. Supt. Hospedales, Supt. Bertie, W/Supt. Bridgelal, Asp. Pacheco, ASP. Ramsarran, ASP. Chulhan and Inspector Wilkinson, and was directly supervised by Sgt. Singh and Cpl. Heeralal.

Earlier, in the Eastern Division, between 8:30pm on Friday, 4th September, and 1:30am on Saturday, 5th September, officers of the Cumuto Criminal Investigations Department and Cumuto Charge Room conducted an intelligence-led exercise in the district.

At approximately 10:30pm, the team received information which led them to Didier Trace, Cumuto.

There, they observed a man dressed in dark clothing standing along the north-eastern side of the roadway, in a bushy area.

Upon looking in the direction of the patrol unit, the man began running northwards and dropped a clear plastic bag containing several objects before fleeing into the bushy area.

A comprehensive search of the area was conducted, during which the team discovered a transparent plastic bag containing three rounds of .32 am******on and a silver-coloured .32 Special revolver containing two rounds of .32 am******on.

The search continued towards the eastern side of a school, in the direction in which the man had fled. However, neither the man nor any further items were found.

Investigations are ongoing into this matter.

The operation was spearheaded by Snr. Supt. Frank, Supt. McKenzie, ASP Balewa and ASP Morales, coordinated by W/Insp. Ramai and Sgt. Calson, and supervised by PC Marshall.
