am reaching out to the people of Canada for guidance and support as I navigate a very difficult and stressful situation.
I am a citizen and resident of Trinidad and Tobago currently involved in a family court matter in Canada. Based on the current direction of the case, I may be required to pay an amount that is significantly beyond my financial capacity—potentially several times what I can reasonably afford in child support.
Due to ongoing medical challenges, I have not been able to return to work, and meeting such an obligation may force me to sell my home and my vehicle—assets I worked hard to build over many years.
I want to make it very clear that I am not trying to avoid my responsibilities. I am fully prepared to support my child in a fair and reasonable way. However, I am deeply concerned about how these amounts are being determined and whether my current circumstances are being properly understood.
Separately, I have written to the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada and the appropriate immigration authorities requesting the opportunity to submit information and evidence related to the background of this matter, as I believe there are important facts that should be considered. I am simply seeking a fair opportunity to be heard through the proper channels.
Despite my efforts to engage through official avenues, I have not yet been able to meaningfully present my situation.
This has placed me under immense emotional and financial strain, and I am asking for advice from those familiar with the Canadian system:
• What options are available to ensure my financial reality is properly considered?
• How can I effectively participate in the process from outside of Canada?
• Are there resources or organizations that assist individuals in situations like mine?
I am seeking fairness, due process, and the opportunity to be heard.
Any guidance or direction would be sincerely appreciated.
