Today is an extra special leap year birthday! On this day 100 years ago Bhadase Sagan Maraj, was born. He is credited with forming the Sanatan Dharma Maha Sabha in 1952 in Trinidad. He was just 32 years old at the time, was already independently wealthy, an elected politician and now uniting the Hindus. That’s a lot for 32! It was a very different time. The island was still ruled by the British for one thing
and access to education was very limited especially for East Indians. It was only with formation of this group the British allowed the building of Hindu primary schools. Bhadase funded most of these schools out of pocket. A new docufilm about his life will be released soon.
