Choosing where to have your baby in Trinidad & Tobago isn’t always as simple as asking, “Which hospital is best?”
Your options may depend on where you live, whether you’re receiving public or private care, where your obstetrician has admitting privileges, your pregnancy and obstetric history, and the level of care you or your baby may need.
If you’re planning a private hospital birth, ask about their gestational cut-off too. Depending on the hospital, if baby may arrive before approximately 34–36 weeks, you may need to deliver within the public system where the appropriate neonatal support is available.
And if you’re receiving private antenatal care but planning to deliver in a public hospital, register with the public service during your pregnancy.
There isn’t one hospital that’s right for everyone.
The better question is: Which hospital is right for me?
Save this for when you’re making your birth plans — and send it to someone having a baby in T&T. 🇹🇹
