HIGHER RISK OF SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS DUE TO LOCALIZED EFFECTS FROM THURSDAY THROUGH SATURDAY FAVORING NORTHERN , WESTERN TRINIDAD
The passage of Tropical Storm Erin over the Northern Atlantic is expected to indirectly influence weather across the island chain. When a tropical cyclone passes north of our islands, winds often shift and slow, typically backing to a southerly direction. This brings additional moisture from the southern part of the region, increasing rainfall potential—particularly over the Northern Range and western parts of Trinidad.
From Thursday through Saturday, these changes—combined with a light wind regime, hotter daytime temperatures, and southeast to southerly winds—will create favorable conditions for localized convection. Northern areas of Trinidad are likely to see the most activity during the afternoon period.
According to the latest European model thunderstorm potential data, Thursday and Friday carry the highest likelihood of afternoon downpours with thunderstorms across northern, western, and central Trinidad.
Expected Conditions:
Higher shower chances compared to recent days but not widespread.
Hot and uncomfortable mornings followed by heavy, thundery afternoon showers more likely in Northern and Western Trinidad and less likely in Tobago.
Possible gusty winds, street flooding, and flash flooding during heavy downpours.
