Beyond breathtaking.
Taking a break from my Cebu trip postings to appreciate the beauty and effort that has been exerted in the much anticipated Voltes V Legacy. GMA Drama has poured their hearts (and wallets) out to produce a live adaptation no local production companies would risk trying.
Before I continue, let it be known that my review is not from a fan’s point of view but from someone who’s lurking around, watching locally produced content from time to time. With the impact of shows like ‘Maria Clara at Ibarra’ established, it is clear that their home network seeks to continue (if not, surpass) the impact their shows are leaving to their viewers.
The cinema cut contains the first three weeks of the series, and honestly, I didn’t feel lacking thereof. Sure, bits and pieces were trimmed to make this cut but that’s something we’ll look forward to when it comes out next Monday (8 May). It truly feels different when you appreciate the details on the big screen, that is why I recommend watching this before it’s gone. According to their socials, you can still watch it until 2 May.
Without making this too lengthy, the details were on point. The characters had an added depth and emotion from the characters we’ve seen in the OG anime version. The nod to the ending song that’s been used in the musical scoring is Chef’s Kiss (I won’t deny, this statement is a bit biased for I have an inkling towards the ending song “Chichi Wo Motomete” than the opening haha).
In hindsight, Voltes V Legacy breaks the stereotype of what we think of Philippine local series. I have highly vouched for ‘Maria Clara and Ibarra’ and looks like we’re doing it again here. Really can’t wait for the public to see this on primetime!
It’s weird putting the TL;DR at the end of the post but PLEASE watch it in the cinema when you can! You’ll enjoy and love the details. To Direk Mark Reyes V and the entire team, AVISALA ESHMA for making this a reality. Ivo live, Voltes V: Legacy.
