在無垠荒漠中,即使是一簇微小火焰,也足以引領人們找到方向,猶如甘泉一般尋見希望。面對極端氣候影響,仍有一群人選擇以更謙卑、溫柔的方式,灌溉、滋養土地和守護地球,儘管只是微小的行動與適度介入,他們共同懷著尊重土地的信念思考與推動,能否具體為環境貢獻更多可能?也許,「沙漠方舟」(Desert Ark)可逆、可拆解、可移動存在的形式便是理想例證。

In a desert that seems to go on without end, even the smallest flame can help a traveller find their way, a beacon as vital as water in a time of drought. Faced with the impacts of increasingly extreme climatic conditions, there are still people who choose quiet, humble and patient ways of watering and tending the land, of caring for the earth itself. Their actions are small, their interventions carefully measured, yet they share a conviction grounded in respect for the ground beneath their feet, and keep asking whether such work can, in tangible terms, open up more possibilities for the environment. The Desert Ark, with its reversible, demountable and mobile way of inhabiting the desert, may be an apt answer to that question.

In cities where land is scarce and population density keeps rising, balconies are often the first casualty. Yet architecture that centers around terraces shifts the focus away from mere floor-area, embracing instead a deeper longing — for better living quality and a true connection to the outdoors.

Perhaps the true highlight of a building isn’t the moment it touches the ground, but that instant when the idea is born in the architect’s mind.

時間是流動的。特別是當混沌、焦慮、非線性且難以理解的環境已逐漸成為常態現象,意味著「觀點,從來沒有標準的正確答案。」有時,放下「絕對正確」的執念,暫時挪去立場、不著急定論,是「它」在條件變動中持續修正的過程,反而也更貼近現實狀態 ; 觀點,處在推移的時間裡時刻生成、也在其中不斷演化。

本期 Features 邀請了西班牙的 Mesura 團隊,一個不急於為自己定義、標示風格的團隊,而以觀察的細膩方式回應各類設計:平衡「人」與「地域」間的相異關係、溯及文化脈絡中的關聯,讓作品成果串起完整情境。

Time doesn’t hold still. And as chaos, anxiety, nonlinearity, and hard-to-parse conditions increasingly become the norm, it becomes clear that there is no single, standard “right” perspective. Sometimes the most realistic move is to loosen our grip on being absolutely correct—to set our stance aside for a moment and hold off on a verdict—so our thinking can recalibrate as circumstances change and stay closer to reality. Views take shape in time, and they continue to evolve within it.

In this issue’s Features, we turn to the Spanish practice Mesura. They are not in a hurry to define themselves or label a signature style. Instead, they respond with careful observation—balancing the differences between people and place, and tracing the links within cultural context—so each project can hold its full setting together.

正因 PPAA 理解建築的存在應創造與環境連結的感官體驗,在為兩位摯友和其家庭於墨西哥 Valle de Bravo 鎮打造一座共享居所時,透過光線、材質和空間比例的掌握,構築出承載情感與生活的載體,讓居者在與自然對談的同時,亦能深化內在,找回人與人的互動連結,於日常生活中感受真切的寧靜和祥和。

How long has it been since you allowed yourself a day of stillness—away from screens and noise—immersed instead in nature and quiet, giving your mind space to settle and breathe?

Casa Ocote, designed by PPAA for two friends and their families in Valle de Bravo, was conceived with this spirit of retreat. The project demonstrates the studio’s belief that architecture should create sensory connections with its environment. By carefully shaping light, proportion, and materiality, the house becomes a vessel for daily life and emotion, offering residents both communion with nature and a renewed closeness with one another.

藝術家為何要「潛行」?

作為謙卑的觀察者與誠實的記錄者,潛行是一種姿態。遊走在歷史、文化與環境的縫隙中,試圖揭露那些在主流敘事下,可能被遮蔽或忽略的真實。策展人胡朝聖指出,「潛行」並非退隱,而是一種積極的實踐。

臺東美術館當期展覽《潛行》探索的便是介於歷史與當下、主流與邊緣、自然與人造之間,不斷變動的地景,掙扎前行的文化,以及脆弱矛盾的共生。


Why do artists move “stealthily”?
As humble observers and honest recorders, stealth is a posture. Navigating the fissures of history, culture, and environment, artists seek to reveal truths that might be hidden or overlooked in mainstream narratives. Curator Hu Chao-Sheng emphasizes that stealth is not retreat, but an active practice.

The current exhibition Stealth at Taitung Art Museum explores shifting terrains—between history and the present, mainstream and marginal, natural and artificial—as well as cultures that struggle forward and fragile, contradictory forms of coexistence.

2012 年被聯合國教科文組織(UNESCO)列入《世界文化遺產》名為 「珍珠之路」(Pearling Path)」 的文化步道,串起穆哈拉格島上的海岸、歷史街區與多座遺址,全長約三公里的城市路徑,見證珍珠產業在十九世紀至二十世紀初的繁盛與消逝,而停車場屬「珍珠之路」計畫的一部分。

如今,四座建築正悄然改寫城市基礎設施的定義,它以謙遜當代語言對話這座城市,具體實現文化復興的意義。這項計畫由瑞士建築師 Christian Kerez 設計,這些建設的核心在於如何重塑城市,成為公共性的生活場域,團隊並未抹去穆哈拉格中世紀城市肌理中的空隙,而是選擇了放大並延展它。

Inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2012 under the title Pearling, Testimony of an Island Economy, the Pearling Path is a three-kilometre urban trail connecting the island’s coastline, historic quarters, and a constellation of architectural sites.

It bears witness to the prosperity and decline of Bahrain’s pearling industry between the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. The four car parks designed by Swiss architect Christian Kerez form an integral part of this broader revitalisation project.

若從時間尺度觀之,一塊能用於建築裝潢的天然石材,橫跨了人類文明難以想像的長度。數億年的沉積與地殼運動,形成不可複製的紋理;再經過挖掘、裁切、研磨等工序,最終才呈現出獨有的色澤與厚度。使之成為空間中不可忽視的一面牆、一張檯面、一段階梯,擁有值得被仔細閱讀的雋永表情。

Seen on a geological timescale, a piece of natural stone used in architectural finishes spans a duration almost beyond human imagining. Hundreds of millions of years of sedimentation and tectonic movement form patterns that cannot be replicated; only after quarrying, cutting, and polishing does the material finally reveal its distinctive colour and thickness. It becomes, in space, an unmistakable wall, a countertop, a flight of steps—an enduring expression that rewards close attention.

綠美圖作為全臺首座美術館與圖書館共構的全新藝文場館,憑藉著開放且流動的空間型態,似有若無的邊界,豐富的地景歷史脈絡,以及與自然共生的環境氣質,不只為藝術家們帶來創作靈感,也為策展帶來前所未見的可能性。

臺中市立美術館(以下簡稱中美館)開館首展「萬物的邀約」於 12 月 13 日正式揭幕。由中美館策展團隊攜手臺灣策展人周伶芝、美國策展人艾蕾娜.克萊爾.費爾德曼(Alaina Claire Feldman),以及羅馬尼亞旅居南韓策展人安卡.繆雷.金(Anca Mihuleţ-Kim)四方共同策劃,透過多元視角的交會反映場館相互融合的特質。

As Taiwan’s first cultural complex to integrate an art museum with a public library, the Taichung Green Museumbrary draws its character from an open, fluid spatial disposition, thresholds that feel present one moment and dissolve the next, a richly layered landscape history, and an atmosphere shaped by close coexistence with nature. These conditions offer artists a different kind of stimulus, while opening curatorial possibilities that feel newly imaginable.

Taichung Art Museum (TcAM) inaugurates the venue with "A Call of All Beings," officially unveiled on December 13. The exhibition is jointly curated by the TcAM curatorial team, Taiwanese curator Ling-Chih Chow, American curator Alaina Claire Feldman, and Romanian–Korean curator Anca Mihuleţ-Kim, bringing multiple viewpoints into contact as a way of reflecting the building’s own interwoven nature.

自 2024 年巴塞爾鄉村藝術館(Kunsthaus Baselland)搬遷於此展間後,讓前來參展的人們有機會在觀展的過程中,一同閱讀這座舊倉庫經 Buchner Bründler Architekten 之手如何介入並轉化空間,使舊有構件的語彙在新使用情境中被重新喚醒,與新介入元素共同形塑空間脈絡。

A building’s renewal is never merely a matter of repair. It is an attempt to extend the life of a space and allow it to take on a new purpose. Few long-time residents of Switzerland’s Dreispitz district could have anticipated that a former champagne warehouse—once one of many elongated storage buildings in the area’s characteristic linear arrangement—would be transformed into a site for contemporary art.

Since the Kunsthaus Baselland moved into the former warehouse in 2024, visitors have been able to trace, through their movement in the galleries, how Buchner Bründler Architects intervened in the structure and reinterpreted it. The warehouse’s original components are reactivated within the new program, their presence shaping a spatial narrative together with the contemporary elements introduced into the building.
