Experimenting with light Blackmagic Design Tokina Global Nanlite Global

Artur Matveev and I shot a corporate short film in Taiwan earlier this week. From the perspective of director of photography it was a fun challenge working in a skeleton crew, and we also executed with high frame rates (mostly 100fps).

This introduced issues with crop factor, shutter angle and avoiding flicker, as well as requiring much more light in general. But as always, filmmaking heavily involves problem solving and we succeeded with minimal setbacks.

If the answer is I just can't let go of this, I can't imagine myself not doing this, then that's the answer. And that is how I felt about it the whole time. My passion for it and love of the art form has never let up."

Every year brings new challenges and I really consider switching jobs often. But I can't let go of this, even if it means my ego takes a hit and I have to ask for support from family & friends.

"Most people who work on the documentary side of the film industry are attracted to it because they have a sense of adventure and are curious about the world.

If all we cared about was crafting perfectly lit frames in an air conditioned room, then food commercials would be a much easier way to make a living.

But assuming we are trying to get out and see the world, documentary filmmaking has the potential to get you access to experiences and places you never dreamed of. "

Is this camera worth the price? $111,000...well, the build quality and images coming out of it are truly industry standard. But I would argue that the image is less than 2x better than my Blackmagic Design cameras, while costing more than 10x the price!
