Media Plus is honored to have assisted AHDB - Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board in hosting this year's "Quality Pork from BRITAIN Luncheon." The event featured a fun-designed board game called "AHDB Farm Owner Monopoly," which allowed participants to experience the role of a farm owner and understand the quality and characteristics of British pork from various aspects such as breeding, medical care, transportation, and slaughter.

At the event, we enjoyed this fun and relaxed activity with the UK delegation, the British Office Taipei, Taiwan importers, and media representatives. We also took the opportunity to convey the high-quality standards and requirements of British pork to everyone in attendance.

After the pandemic, AHDB - Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board led the first-ever UK delegation to Taiwan and had the privilege of co-organizing the AHDB Taiwan British Meat Forum with 英僑商務協會 British Chamber of commerce in Taipei

During the forum, not only shared background information on British pork, highlighting that it is produced according to strict standards, with 40% of UK pigs being reared outdoors, and without the use of any growth-promoting hormones, making it a safe and high-quality choice for consumers.

But also engaged in discussions with Taiwanese pork-related businesses to gain a better understanding of the current meat market situation in Taiwan. The ultimate goal is to establish a long-term cooperative relationship between the UK and Taiwan, providing more opportunities for Taiwanese consumers to purchase and taste British pork in retail channels and restaurants in the future.

Taiwan’s agricultural industry honoured its peak producers last week. The Agricultural Council, in conjunction with an elite judging panel of industry experts, selected group and individual winners in the categories of agricultural and food products, and aquatic products, 15 in all. The industry also celebrated an increase in production of over 30% compared with last year.

In a show of commitment to sustainable agricultural practices, all applicants had to be compliant with Taiwan’s Traceable Agricultural Product (TAP) standards. The standards emphasise traceability of the production process, allowing consumers to have greater knowledge about the source of their food, and trust in its quality. The higher standards also allow farmers to develop stronger brands and higher profit margins.

Everyone loves honey, but are you a true connoisseur? Did you know that the nectar from different trees results in different flavours? In Taiwan, some of the best honey comes from Longan trees which provide a rich, wild taste melded with the aroma of the mountains.

Luckily, when at the market you don’t need to consider these things. The Hsinchu county agriculture department has you covered, setting standards and this week: awards. 31 producers signed up to be judged, with quality evaluated by experts at the 2022 Longan Honey Quality Contest. In addition to the main event, the County’s Farmers Association also launched a Honey-Lemon soft drink, a perfect thirst-quencher for summer.

Hsinchu County produces more than 100,000 kilograms of honey annually, and is expending substantial effort to ensure the same high quality is reached by all producers. Tying in with the national-level Traceable Agricultural Products (TAP) program, an increasing number of honey products will now ship with a QR code on the packaging. Scanning that code will reveal to consumers exactly where their honey is from and details about how it was produced. This ensures high-quality and accountability throughout the entire supply chain.

It’s not just the local community that’s getting involved. Renewable Energy player RWE had a showing at the event, sponsoring the donation of new hives to the winning beekepers. The world’s second largest offshore wind developer also purchased more than 3,600kg of agricultural products from the County for delivery to social welfare organisations.

Li Xiaohua, the Director-General of the County Farmers' Association, said that the prosperity and development of the community requires the joint efforts of all members. So, get eating that high quality honey, and encourage your company to get involve in local farming efforts too!

Innovation in the Offshore Wind has been rapid over the past few years. In 2020, RWE pioneered a technique called ‘monopile collars’ to help stabilise turbine towers. This month, the first were installed at the Kawasaki offshore wind farm in Germany.

As we’ve mentioned before, construction on the seabed is no easy task. Particularly as the industry moves toward bigger turbines, the capacity of each tower and its ability to handling lateral loads is becoming more important. For installations into difficult soil conditions, the challenge is real.

Developed by German civil engineering firm JBO, manufactured by Bladt and installed by DEME Offshore, RWE’s monopile collar technology helps stabilise turbine towers in such difficult ground. It adds a new ring of steel at the interface with the seabed, which is connected to the monopile foundation using a special grout. Incredibly, all of this is happening 25 meters underwater. RWE Renewables chief executive for offshore wind Sven Utermöhlen said: "In our Kaskasi offshore wind farm, we use innovative technologies that set new standards in the entire offshore industry.

Kawasaki is RWE’s 6th wind farm off the German coast, and by the end of the year its 38 turnbines will supply around 400,000 homes with green energy.
