Former Taiwan KOM Challenge participant SIMON YATES WINS the GIRO!

Simon Yates delivered an unexpected masterclass at the 2025 Giro d’Italia, securing his first Maglia Rosa and second Grand Tour title in a dramatic and emotional finale. His triumph was sealed with a decisive solo attack on Stage 20, where he overturned a significant deficit to overtake race leader Isaac del Toro. Whilst del Toro's tactics on Stage 20 were questionable to say the least, Yates' performance - and that of his teammate Wout Van Aert - were perfect.

Yates ultimately finished 3 minutes and 56 seconds ahead of Del Toro, with Richard Carapaz completing the podium in third place.

Yates's victory is particularly poignant given a previous disaster in the Giro. In 2018, he wore the Maglia Rosa for 13 stages before a dramatic collapse on the penultimate stage, losing his lead to Chris Froome. This year's triumph, achieved on the very climb where he faltered seven years prior, symbolizes a full-circle moment in his career.

Beyond his Grand Tour successes, Yates has shown a commitment to diverse racing experiences. In 2023, he participated in the Taiwan KOM Challenge! Unfortunately, he crashed out during the event, and we sincerely hope that he will return one day to take part once again in the event!

The final stage culminated in a sprint victory for his Visma-Lease a Bike teammate, Olav Kooij. Kooij outpaced Kaden Groves and Matteo Moschetti to claim the stage win.

🏆 Final General Classification (Top 3)
1. Simon Yates (Team Visma – Lease a Bike)
2. Isaac del Toro (UAE Team Emirates) +3'56"
3. Richard Carapaz (EF Education–EasyPost) +4'43"

🚴 Stage 21 Top 3 Finishers
1. Olav Kooij (Team Visma – Lease a Bike)
2. Kaden Groves (Alpecin–Deceuninck)
3. Matteo Moschetti (Q36.5 Pro Cycling Team)

Below is a video from just after Stage 20, and you can see quite clearly what it means to him to have reclaimed the famous Pink Jersey....

Well done Simon!

Yilan, Taiwan – The 2025 Taiwan KOM Challenge - Spring Edition, part of the Taiwan Cyclist League, took place today, March 31, 2025, with over 200 riders tackling the KOM route. The race began at 7:00 AM from Changpi Lake in Yilan and culminated at the newly adjusted finish line at NanShan due to a landslide at the original 36.8K mark. Despite early rain, the conditions did not dampen the spirits of the riders, who faced a challenging 45-kilometer route, including an elevation gain of 1,150 meters.

In the men’s category, Taylor Delhagen (USA) surged ahead to claim victory with a time of 1 hour, 17 minutes, and 50 seconds. Cheng, a standout athlete in Taiwanese cycling, expressed her excitement after the race, while the team’s coach, Huang Xianxi, also celebrated the victory.

In the women’s race, Liao Yuru (Taiwan) finished in second place, followed by Lin Yiling (Taiwan) in third. The women’s race was highly competitive, with Cheng’s victory standing as a testament to her preparation and determination.

Japanese rider Akiko Koike expressed her delight in participating despite the cold weather, while Taiwanese flight attendant and cycling enthusiast Tsai Hsiu-Wen once again completed the Spring KOM challenge.

Live-streamer Lee Shifeng () captured the stunning race route, which was surrounded by scenic mountain views, ensuring that fans around the world could experience the breathtaking beauty of Taiwan’s mountains.
