In Maasai color symbolism, the calabash is associated with the colors orange and yellow, which represent the sun and warmth. Because the dried gourd naturally takes on these warm tones, it has become the universal symbol of hospitality. When you visit a Maasai boma (homestead), being served milk from a calabash is a gesture of welcome and peace.
